Hi All.......my 73 Sprint is I believe more or less mechanically standard ...with exception to electric fuel pump/ lumenition.....There is far too much information and know it alls about to make good sense for Me ...so I prefer to ask TDC Members for simple logic.
I have been offered a pair of Weber 45 dcoe........Please advise me here... I can purchase a new inlet manifold to suit with ease (bit pricey but heh)....To obtain the best net result from carb swopping etc I believe an uprated cam would be pre-requisite.If so which cam do I fit ,where do I obtain it please and most of all will this make much difference to the Dolly's already slick performance or should other mechanical jobs be undertaken to get the best net result (being sensible on the money). Brakes are already uprated and so is the entire F & R Suspension.

Appreciate Your knowledge.
Many Thanks
Charlie aka sprintpmc :?

It really all depends on what you want the car for and how you want it to perform. Unfortunately any changes you make will give advantages but drawbacks too. The latter will be a reduction in driveability in traffic / low speeds.
Sounds as though with brakes and suspension you have made the sensible improvements first, so if you want more road performance (acceleration) then perhaps a mild road cam would suit. My advice would be to get something that doesn't require a change to cam timing (needs adjustable sprocket and is not a pleasant task), nor a major reduction in valve clearances.
My racecar runs 45 Dellortos, I've never got around to changing to 48s, and with a STR139 cam it is totally un-driveable on the road if there is any traffic about!

Geoff....Many Thanks for your reply....makes good sense...I just would like to improve the road performance to suit the brakes and suspension ...both of which can take a little more oomph...just the traffic in the SE of UK is hard work sometimes....so I do not require a too rougher run engine...

So, rather than go down my intended road with the webers.....Howabout this as an alternative..keep the existing inlet manifold...fit pair 2" SU's, a mild fast road cam as U suggested and tune it properly on a rolling road ... ?? :D
Would that be more suitable for road use ..plus keep the cost down.....
Look on members cars ...u will see the car.....
Appreciate your reply
Regards
Charlie

Mine is on 45s with a ported head, electric fuel pump, fast road cam, electronic ignition etc and has good performance and not too bad round town. If you were nearer you could jump in.

My sprint has 139 hp at the rear wheels with a std cam and carbs. The only costs are a gasketset and a miller. It is not just adding parts and adding fictional bhp's.

What was that at the engine Jeroen? That's a surprising figure. Is this what a full blueprint will achieve? I'd be interested to know what carb needles and timing it uses.

It was the engine of the start of a new project. Now converting to lpg injection.

Just blueprinting, flowing, balancing and std lightened flywheel etc. Compressio ratio of about 1:11 and adjustable camsprocket for exact timing. Narrow valveplay for less noise and slightly more lift. And a good gearbox, propshaft and rearaxle. It needed octane 98+. Std ignition with an optronic but not exceeding 32 degrees advance at full. More advance and a sprint engine drops power.

Fitting an electric fan. The visco fan does take about 5-7 hp at full rev and i use a bell exhaust. That ads another 7 bhp. I could manage to buy 3 bell systems many years ago and all my sporty ones have one. The carb needless were early spec so the richest.
