County Garage Ltd was selling Ford, Standard, Triumph and Ferguson before the second world war. After WW2 Ford was taken to court by Ferguson who accused them of stealing his patented 3 point linkage tractor invention. Ferguson won his legal action and decided not to share it with Ford. After this date there were to be no dealerships with both Ford and the Ferguson connected Standard Triumph cars.

County Motors came into being in 1948 selling Standard, Triumph and Alvis cars as well as Ferguson tractors. The car retailer hit its peak in the 1970s, when its showrooms in Rosehill and Botchergate sported offerings from brands such as Jaguar, Daimler, Triumph, Rover and Land Rover. In more recent times it also acted as distributor for Fiat, Daihatsu and Alfa Romeo. Since 2009, however, County Motors dealt only in selling and repairing used cars.

At its peak the business employed over 140 people at several sites. 24 July 2013 saw the appointment of an administrator to the business. With the closure of the showroom at Kingstown Broadway eight employees working at the dealership, among them owner Barry Tweddle lost their jobs and the business was closed down,

In both the 1965 and 1968/69 Triumph Service Directory County Motors (Carlisle) Ltd of 14 Botchergate were listed as a distributor with Carlisle Motor Co on Fishergate listed as a dealer. In 1974 only County Motors are still listed as distributor.

A scan/photo of the letter or just the letterhead would be useful.

Does anyone know of a Alan's of Bristol, Berkeley Square/Whiteladies Rd??
I have just published a blog post about C Allen and Son (Bristol) Ltd in Bristol. http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2016 ... h-car.html

I have found about the history of the firm but could really do with some more Triumph related material. However I was sent these pictures of an unusual Triumph document which feature the C Allen dealer stamp.

Fodbank Motors of Dunfermline - Triumph car dealers article 15.

http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2016 ... h-car.html

The opening of a new premises by Fodbank Motors of Dunfermline on Halbeath Road was reported in the the Standard Triumph review in August 1966. I have the Standard Triumph Review DVDs and am finding some material for my blog articles.

Image

I am still looking for material to use in my blog posts. Please share images of garages, showrooms, dealer badges, windows stickers etc. Am also interested in antidotes about Triumph car garages.

Am sure if this is where I think it is, all buildings are gone now and a new built Kwik Fit tyres unit sits there now. I recall in the mid 70's onwards Taggarts (previous Fife Motor Co) became the local Triumph/BL agents and thats demolished now as well replaced by newly built Iceland and Aldi next to Dunfermline FC.

Checked this out with a mate in the car trade and its actually a hundred yards east of where I thought  and is now Arnold Clark but the buildings in the picture have gone and is just an open area with second hand motors on display. Its at the junction of Halbeath Road and Linburn Road.
