I got some trim fitted to the nearside doors.

I got interrupted before I could get any more fitted. Still, progress is progress.

you should have removed your grubby finger marks of the new paint work before taking a picture [-X (above the passenger door handle)

I'll worry about that once the car is running again. That's the trouble with white: it shows up all the muck.

What you need is a nice shade (or shades) of brown ...

50 shades of Russett? I've already been there, etc...

It'll be all white on the night! :)

The nicest thing about white cars is they match with the most rally livery decals. You could put soem decals on it.

No further progress has been made. When I said that I'd been interrupted when I fitted the nearside door trims, it was none other than Adam who had split up with his partner (she'd locked him out). This was the very day he hit my Xsara Picasso (before it happened). I offered to take him down to his parents' house or drive his car down there because he looked to be in no fit state to drive. He refused my offer and ended up running into my car.

Anyway, back to the story. The aftermath of the accident, the cold & wet weather and a skin problem with my right hand have all caused me to lose my enthusiasm. The modern takes priority and I will turn my attenton back to the 1850 once I've ironed out all the small faults. With this in mind, I removed the battery and it is now kept in the house where I can keep an eye on the voltage. Fortunately it is still holding charge. I'm in half a mind to reinstate the original carb mounts to see if I can get the engine runing again. I'll probably end up fitting more of the chrome trim before that.

The insurance is due so I've renewed with Adrian Flux. There was a small increase which was due to the increase in the insurance premium tax so it isn't even worth getting any other quotes. The cost of the phone calls alone (especially to the 0845 numbers) would wipe out any savings.

I finally did something!

I reset the mixture by screwing the adjusting nuts all the way in and undoing it 12 flats (or 2 complete turns). I put the battery back on and nothing happened when I turned the key. The first thing I checked was the multiplug connector at the top of the bell housing which goes to the inhibitor switch. I sprayed some contact cleaner on the terminals but it made no difference. The battery was reading a healthy 12.7 volts so I know that's fine. I wasn't able to do much else because I was in my normal clothes and I didn't want to get them dirty. I really need to get underneath and check all the connections and even though the weather is a bit milder than a few days ago we're still in the middle of February. I need to get a new trolley jack so I can get the car raised properly so I can get it on axle stands to get to the starter motor connections which will be the next place to check. I've left the battery on the car and disconnected the earth lead which should stop it from becoming discharged.

Did you try wiggling the transmission selector? Sometimes the inhibitor in P gets a bit lazy but in N it will start.

Jonners, good to see you posting on here again. Hope you're on the mend.

There's no power to the starter motor. The inhibitor has been bypassed (not by me!) so I'll need to check the bypass as well as the connections to the starter motor. I can't get underneath the car until I've got a decent jack and a set of axle stands. I have a pair but they're a bit too big to fit under the Dolly.

And I've still done bugger-all! I did notice that one of the wires going into the -ve battery lead is a bit frayed so I've posted a "wanted" thread. As some of you know, I was given a load of parts from Steve W. who was having a clear out prior to a house move. Most of then were of no use to me and I hat to see them go to waste so I've been offering them to club members for free. There were a few things that I've decided to keep including a set of Lucas 45D4 points, a nearside door mirror, a brake pad fitting set (pins & shims), a wheel cylinder fitting kit and some trim clips (I bought some but it is handy to have spares and I now have the clips to fit the sill trim which I didn't order).

I really need to get my skates on if I'm going to get NYE back on the road before James' "Project Recomission"!

I finally got my finger out and did something! Not much but better than nothing.

I fitted the upper chrome trims on the offside doors.
Image

Next I did the lower trim on the nearside doors.
Image

I know it isn't much but every job done is one step further along. With the milder weather and longer days, I'm more inclined to do some work which I'm hoping will kick start my enthusiasm.
