I've now blown 3 coreplugs out of the 2000, the 3rd one being at the back of the block.

I'm yet to work out how to replace this one, without removing the engine.

Question however, is why is it blowing them out?
They're the old style domed plugs, the one that I recovered was not rotten, but blown out completely.

To my eyes, they are deformed more than when I install them.

Anybody got any bright ideas, don't feel I can trust the thing at the moment!

Head gasket pressurising a bit? Any dirty brown water stains in the header tank?

Tony

New solid copper head gasket on Tony, no mayonnaise, not blowing anything out of the 7 psi rad cap.

Sending me round the bend, as I'm relying on people helping me at the moment, feels like I'm taking the mick!

Don't know how I'll replace this one, without removing the engine, short of taking the dash out, and drilling a hole in the bulkhead!

those domed core plugs were always a pain to fit correctly. were they new old stock? or just repros?
as a temp/permanent measure. i have in the past when i had my garage used jb weld on a piece of steel and just stuck it over the hole. this was always done with the customers knowledge! i only had one failure in poss 50 fittings. and only done in cases like yours.
the only thing you have to do is make sure everything is super clean with roughend surfaces.
it might be worth a try before removing engine :( it cant damage anything :)
good luck.

I have enough core plugs to risk jb welding one in place, before putting a further plate over
I'll have a think, what concerns me is a number of the plugs do not look to be properly inserted.
I'm really worried about the ones in the bell housing.
