This is a huge problem for forums like this, all my photos on my build thread are now blocked unless I pay a monthly fee.

Anybody suggest an alternative but a right pain in the butt to change all the links.

And a steal at only $399 a year! There is a reason I suggested we used Postimage with this forums image upload feature, I never liked Photobucket, advertisement heavy and a slow site to add insult to injury. I would not be too concerned just yet, wait for the inevitable internet backlash and this policy change will more than likely be rescinded.

PS. Mentioned it to a contact at IT 'trade' site theregister.co.uk and I'm told they are building a story up but are giving Photobucket time to respond before publishing.

Can't see anyone paying that kind of charge for 3rd party hosting. I'm certainly not going to update my own thread but I will at some point provide a link to somewhere to view them.

Every image hosting site eventually goes down this route. you get owt for nowt.
I'm using Flickr, for free, it's owned by Yahoo so make sure you use a VERY secure password.
Free for now....

I have been using flickr but as it is owned by Yahoo. I expect it could change as and when somebody buys Yahoo.

Google Drive is still free and easy to use: https://www.google.com/drive/

Every photo i've ever posted here was via PB, so all have vanished into limbo. I've been dissatisfied with Photobucket for a while, obstructive, riddled with pop-ups, etc, this is the last straw!

Fortunately my photos aren't lost as they are backed up on my computer too. All the same, it's gonna be a complete PITA to go through even my 2 build threads and reinstate the pics.

Apparently the $399 is the highest rate you can pay and deals start at £20ish (according to folks who know on Retro Rides) If you have vast numbers of non backed up pics on PB then paying might be your best choice to save aggro.

For myself and the miserable 600 odd (backed up) pics I have on PB, they can take a running jump, they won't get any money from me!

Google drive is excellent but won't do bb code like photobucket. I don't mind paying for a service but the cost they are asking is not even close to acceptable.

Nobody is going to lose any photos even if they do (very very unwisely) not have them backed up locally. PB are only blocking [img] tags from 3rd parties such as us. If you post a link to the site you and others can see the pictures in an ad riddled context not of your choosing. Not gone, just s##t.

The quickest thing for me, is to go through the build thread, deleting the original image link and subbing the same pic in from the forum hosting site, I think can remember what most of them are and the text will help me refine it! I wouldn't give PB the satisfaction of me linking to their money grabbing, pop-up riddled site! Fortunately I don't have any 50 page, 1000 photo build threads to revise!

Fear not, they'll get round to you! (unless you already pay them, when you MIGHT be ok!)

I'm going to wait to see if they reverse their decision.

Some other forums are saying they might change their minds.

If you add ~original after the.jpg in your IMG code then the image will appear via Photobucket. Not sure how long this will stay around but it'll work for now.

Worked for me too. Just editied the most recent photos on my resto thread that I'd hosted on Photbucket. I'd already started using my Flickr account because I was reaching my storage limit. This is a big two fingered salute to Photbucket.
