done loads on the car over the last couple days and had a look at the shed loads of spares that came with it. Included are four door window weather strip -the bits that go between the door and window along the door opening. The place you'd hang your elbow if you had the window down.

anyone fitted one without removing the door trip and glass?

I dropped the door glass below the level of the rubber seal and then fashioned a hooked tool to pull the clips up in to place.

Fiddly old job...

Easier without the glass, if you do remove the glass then do the inner rubbing strip as well.
It's a few years since I did mine, but at the time I fitted one Rimmer strip, it was (still is....) awful for fit, pliability and looks. The rest are Chris Witor strips. Whatever strips you use, use the supplier's clips.
Here's a tool I made from stiff-ish alloy plate, and a blob of blue-tac to hold the clip in place. Fiddly without the glass, extra fiddly with, but do-able. Make sure you collect the old clips from the bottom of the door, don't want to add to the rust down there, a good magnet helps.

I did a similar job on my TR7 recently and used the "proper" tool no. GAC9994X. Got it from Chris Witor for £5.95 and very well worth the money.

I find it best to do as a "last job" with the door fully assembled. (Except for the door card) Wind the window down and pull the clips into position on the door skin with a pair of flat nosed pliers. My own special tool is a Spitfire front lower wishbone shim and a molegrip. Slip the tool under the clip to hold it up and one at a time starting from one end, engage the seal by firm downward thumb pressure then go back the other way and push it fully home. I rarely lose clips this way. But i've had a lot of practice in 40 odd years of Triumph ownership and customer work!

I also advise ANYONE to buy the seals sold by TD Fitchett for Triumph Spitfire. They are too long and need to be cut down, but they are the only ones marketed by anyone that I know of, that are exact copies of OE complete with the rebates in the back where the clips go. This makes fitting them SO much easier - honest!

Thanks for the above. The doors are fully assembled and old but slightly cracked strips already in place. I think I can get them out easy enough but I'll definitely have to install,t eh ones I have with everything else in place. Otherwise I'll just leave the cracked ones where they are.
