The clicking sound is still there so the only thing left are the CV joints. Before you all say "I told you so", I was aware of this and the dampers were in need of replacement anyway.

When I was replacing the dampers I noticed that the front tyres were worn down to the tread wear markers. I ended up having some Avon ZV7 XL tyres fitted to the front wheels from my local National Tyres branch. The total cost including a front wheel alignment was just shy of £250.

The recent sunny weather has got me thinking about sorting out the aircon. I know the condenser is leaking and the rest of the system was working just after it had been recharged so a new condenser should fix the problem.

I can understand the shock absorber replacement but why changing the condenser first when it's that obvious it's leaking?

Jeroen.

Take it to a proper AC engineer who'll pressure test the system, dry the system which will be full of water and identify the leak(s). Anyone who just re-fills the system, even with a visible leak type oil is wasting your time and money.

Condensers often fail because they get corroded and/or hit with stones but there's a chance that there are other system leaks, especially if the system has been compromised. Compressor shaft seals, pipes, receiver/drier are all prone to failure on a system in poor condition.

Mark, after I had the system recharged back in April it worked perfectly. It was done properly by a local garage who had all the proper equipment. It was holding a vaccuum once the system haad been emptied but it really needed to be left for longer than they did. UV dye was added when it was reacharged and no leaks could be found at the time. The aircon only worked for a couple of days after it was recharged. At some subesquent time I found an area on the front of the condenser that had the UV dye on it so that is where the leak is. I can't find any other traces of the dye so I'm certain that a new condenser will sort it.

They seem a bit expensive Dave, or the wheel alignment was. I got 4 ZV5s on the MG recently and they cost £268.00 for 18" hairpins, and I put 4 ZV7s on the Volvo a few weeks back and they were £204.00 for the set. I got all of them from black circles including fitting and balancing at a local garage.

Probably 'cos they are from National Tyres, also if you just drive in without prepaying online they charge you A LOT more than the website price. Same thing at Kwik-Fit (Locally known as Half-Wit or Kwik-F*k). Also tracking is free to check but around £30 per adjustment....i.e. per wheel.

i have used black circle tyres for prices :?
then i have gone to a small tyre outlet (that they recomend) and they always beat the the price by as much as £7 a tyre :D :D
so dont order on line before checking
i was told they have to pay a lot in commission to black circle.
plus i hate the multi nationals because most of them are "exhaust holes"
cheers, tony.

I guess Lidl and Aldi will be next then.

At dinner parties not only can you quiz your guests on the taste and price of the lobster but also ask them to guess the price of your tyres and which quality brand they think they are....

Dave

When mine went bang in my Octy Vrs - well holed by a stone, purchase mine from these people, fitted it myself and my car looked like the Top Gear Brit Car 24 race at Sliverstone (they used a BWM).
