There could be no other reason for someone paying over £100 for a logbook than to commit fraud.

I've sent in several V5s of that sort and had an up to date type returned with my name on, without comment and within a reasonable time frame by DVLA. It's not a problem!

Whilst it is more than possible that a document like this could be used for fraudulent or other nefarious purpose, it doesn't HAVE to be!

Well yes, obviously there must be someone out there willing to pay £128 for a random V5 document, have it framed and hung on their living room wall :wink:

Or looking at it another way, somebody has put a set of sprint mechanicals in another shell, and want make the car a "proper" sprint.
Doing that is, in law, no different to re-shelling a sprint with a secondhand shell. The identity is attached to the shell. If the old sprint shell is scrapped, so should the V5.... But we all know in the real world what does happen.

Of course, there is a very slim chance a sprint may be stolen and appear with this registration, but a bit obvious. Saying that, criminals are not usually very bright.

...and appear with what registration exactly, it has been concealed, so how would it be 'obvious'? Why do you think there has been a spate of high end classic car thefts recently; I'll warrant they aren't being broken down for spares. I think anyone with a reasonable condition red coloured Sprint should keep an extra eye on it from now on...

Re thefts, I think many are getting broken up, a few cases with Minis and the perpetrators have been caught, but I bet it goes on with all makes.
A bit obvious as this ebay seller may be traceable, so if a stolen car is found, there is a paper trail.

I remember speaking to a trader a few years ago. He was saying that many restorers given the job of rebuilding a customers car will go out and buy a recently restored car, strip that and use it as the basis as it was the cheapest option by some margin. That may have changed, but I bet there are some iffy restoration companies who will buy a shell without identity if it is good.

But I still expect this registration to be used to get a sprint registration onto a car, or maybe lose a cat c/d or whatever. Or even make a 1980 sprint "historic" tax class, which went on a lot in the classic car scene a few years ago.

But my real point is that many see ringing a registration from one shell to another as OK, but buying a V5 as probably criminal. It is essentially the same thing.

The intent to deceive may be the same.

I have re-shelled a car, but I owned both vehicles that were used, the identity of the donor shell was removed from the register. I sold the car several years later with that made clear, so there was no intent to deceive.

They are not the same thing if one route deprives a legal owner of their chattel.

in law, that re-shelled car should have been issued with a q plate.
That is the law, all to do with the 8 points and so on.
In many ways it seems unfair, and I don't have any issues with what you did.
