Those of you at Retro Rides Gathering last year might remember I had smoke coming out of the bonnet vents as I arrived last year. Oil was being blown out of one of the plug tubes then running down the rocker cover & burning on the exhaust manifold, hence the smoke.
I was a bit concerned as this meant the engine breather wasn't working properly.
Well I drove it home after the show, stuck it in the garage & left it.
I purchased some ali plug tubes as a 2nd hand pair came up on ebay so today I fitted them & investigated the problem.
Plug tubes were easy to fit so hopefully no more oil down the plug tubes, while the rocker cover was off I also retorqued the head.
The breather problem was simple, the oil catch can I had fitted was pretty full which was partially blocking one of the breather pipes, anyway a quick job to empty it, I was surprised at what came out:-
Horrible mayo like gloop, I can only imagine this is oil mixing with condensation, I have waterless coolant so can be that, is this normal?
Anyway it is all back together & ready for it's MOT next week, with a bit of luck all will be OK & I'll be able to attend the New Forest Run that I have missed for the last 3 years.
The best bit of news is for the first time since I built MSO the clutch is not stuck after the winter lay up.
Cheers
Tony
