I think its very hard to put a value on our cars when they are just the lowly basic 1300. Members of our club seem to value them at very little including myself and I believe probably wrongly.
I own a very late 1982 registered 1300 that has won best in shows and although it now wouldn't win is very presentable and very original with a low mileage. I valued it at £3500/£4000. Members here thought I was mad, some too much nearer £2000, and others far to little, so I popped into a classic dealers and asked what he would put it up for. Now I know that's a retail price and more than a private sale would get but its a good guide and would also give a good idea for insurance valuation. He surprised me and said he would put it up in his showroom at £6000.
This led me to get a professional valuation done and they said that it would have a retail value of up to £6000 and realistically they put a valuation on it of £5500 for insurance which has been readily accepted by the insurance company.
What I am trying to say is in the eyes of those outside our circles they are seen to have more value and we are probably the ones who are holding them back. And yes I take into account the argument that they become then too expensive for us to buy, but when I look at other comparable, and less so, makes they all seem to make stronger prices. But at the end of the day any car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, but it seems a shame to me that at the end of the day a good 1300 Dolly could be worth more as a parts and donor to re shell a sprint than keeping it on the road.
If this works hopefully this is a link to a film of CWL and you can make up your own minds on whether this car is worth its valuation.
