As per title, i have just done route planner for next weeks show in Warwick, it is 2hrs 27 minutes and 140 miles, add in any delays on the M25 and i am beginning to wonder if it is a little far for the dolly, sitting in traffic etc, i have not taken this car that far in my ownership and starting to worry.

No! Not too far for the Dolly!
We are planning to do the Club Triumph RBRR in ours next month (blimey that's scary... not long to go!) that's 177 miles from here to the start, about 2200 miles on the event, then 177 miles home!

Just do a few shorter proving runs in the car first and shake the gremlins out.

Do your basic check like fluids etc before you set of and there is no reason not to go. the first Dolomite car show I attended many years ago was a 3 hour drive to the Stoneleigh in a triumph 1300 I had only just recomisioned and MOt'd the previous day. now I tend to say more local but that's usually due to time restraints.

If the do get stuck in slow traffic and the engine gets hot pull the bonnet release which will help the under bonnet heat escape.

150 miles each way to Cressing Temple, Essex (S.O.D.I.T 1997 - now known as TDCIR) in a Sprint with a brand new engine only fitted the week before. Took four hours in each direction. Worst part was getting stuck behind a lorry carrying a load of dead fish.

Just had my 1850 MOT'd yesterday (it's exempt, but makes me feel better) and the paper showed the mileage over the last 4 years or so, it seems to be about 600 miles per year. I bought it in 2009 and the clock showed 24,000, now it's close to 37,000.
I would be happy to drive it any distance but..........I don't like it getting wet and I don't want to drive it on salted roads. Those are the reasons it's lasted this long, it's never been 'restored'. But as far as reliability goes, I reckon I've sorted everything out. I would drive it anywhere. :) In the dry. :lol:

How many dollys normally attend, i was thinking of making a weekend of it and booking the premier inn but local one is fully booked.

Lots. Some of our member will be staying in a camper van at the site on the Saturday night, having a BBQ and some beers apparently. Tons of events going on locally as well, plenty to see at Hatton too.

I restored my old GT6 convertible over a 2 year period (including a house move!) and finished it on August bank holiday Monday 1987. I had it MOT,d and taxed it on the Tuesday and at midnight on the Thursday, it was on the ferry to Ostende for the International Spitfire Weekend on the Dutch/German border! Won't say there weren't ANY teething problems, but it got me there and back, 1150 miles in 5 days and won me a small cup (and several large offers to buy - which I refused) whilst I was there!

Dolomites are rapidly becoming THE car to use for the RBRR after many years of domination by the big saloons, if so many can complete THAT, a mere couple of hundred miles in a day is less than a trifle. I think nothing of driving the Carledo down to Castle Coombe (120 miles of mostly motorway) thrashing it round the track all day and then driving it home afterwards!" If your car is in reasonable shape and well maintained, JUST GO FOR IT!

Well, after having driven a few miles for a shakedown, and finding the fronts getting hot enough to melt the hub grease, I unsuccessfully tried to free off the calliper pistons on ANB yesterday, so I'll have to see if I can get the callipers changed and fluid changed before Sunday...

At least you already have some calipers! If you need a hand, you know where I am!

These days, the only thing that limits my range for shows is the cost of the fuel!

I drive my 1969 MGB V8 conversion nearly 400 miles from Scotland to Silverstone every year for the big MG event there. Why wouldn't you drive any distance in your Dolly? If the car runs well it will gobble up the miles. As for never getting it wet - it's a CAR, not a precious work of art! :mrgreen: My classics live outdoors most of the time, including the winter. They aren't show queens but they are not wrecks either.

I've been sticking to under 100 mile round trips in the Dolly this year as it's developed some irksome starting issues and 70mph in a 1300 can get a bit tiring on the ears over a long period of time! :lol:

Just arrived at Brockenhurst in the New Forest. 170 miles in my 1500HL auto. Effortless journey 65mph on the motorway 70's when needed, 50's elsewhere. Going to spend a week trotting around the forest and various museums. Should be well in excess of 400 miles. The Dolly is going down well in the campsite. If things work out I will try to make a detour to the TDC get together on Sunday.

Well I am planning to bring a TR7 Sprint which hasn't been on the road since '92, MOT is planned for Friday, if it passes then I'll be driving that up.
