Dolomite Sprint (RNK 957W)

#1 Post by RSi »

I bought this in Oct 2017 in London, it spent all its life in Enfield - I'll add more pictures later from the day I bought it and what it looks like now.

These are the photos that were sent to me a couple of nights before I went down to buy it - it was Tony Ward who told me about the car, so thanks to him once again.

Totally unrestored Tony, it's only ever had routine maintenance - there's 4 large folders of history with every MOT and receipt from new.

The first owner had it 5 years, and the next up till 2017 when I bought it. It had been in storage for 13 years before I bought it as the old gentleman had died, Moordale Motors put an MOT on it before I bought it. I'm having the external resprayed just now, as you can imagine the paint is in need of it. I'll put photos of the progress up later, I should have it back for Xmas.

This is my journey from London to the Outer Hebrides, it was quite eventful...... The viscous coupling went south of Penrith, except no-one worked out that's what it was until I got home.

Onto the AA wagon.....

Image

Image

This photo was taken at a service station and later found on instagram, I don't know the chap but he was driving up to Edinburgh in his Spitfire and stopped when he spotted the Sprint and snapped a photo of it, and added it to his instragram page - it was a friend of mine that noticed it, what's the chances of that happening...….

Image

Onto the ferry home, long day and night, this was 2am on Sat morning at Ullapool.

Image

Image

Then I drove it home as it was only 2 miles from the ferry terminal. I left London at 10pm on Thurday 19th and got home at 6am on Sat morning, totally shattered and fed up!

But she was home and I was delighted :)

Looks like a nice car, even on the hard shoulder, white does suit them well!

Read about the viscous fan going and often taking out the radiator with it on the forum, so my first job I ever did was replace it with an electric one.

My Sprint has been to Orkney and Shetland isles, I have a vague plan for a drive up through Barra to Lewis and Harris some time in the future in my bucket list.
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

I'd much prefer it had been let in "General Chat", 99% of material on this forum is Dolomite related, the hint is in the forum name, any chance you can put it back. Thanks.

Here are the photos I took of the Sprint before putting it into my garage to strip ready for a fresh coat of paint - we fixed the viscous coupling straight away, thanks to Matt for diagnosing it over the telephone. I'll give the history of the car in the next post.

The paint looks great in the photos but it wouldn't polish up well, and needed a respray Dave.

Yeah that's exactly how it was Tony, almost chalk like, just no sheen.
