This is something I never thought i'd do, but after much soul searching and influenced by a dozen outside factors. I've decided to part with my long term owned 2 door Toledo, a well known car in these hallowed circles. See my Thread "Carledo's Way" in the resto section for some history.
During 2021, I realized that 10 years hard use on road and track and minimal washing and polishing had taken a toll on the car since I did a body resto in 2012 and was unlikely to pass it's next MOT due in April 2022 without some welding. So I parked it in the garage to await another mini resto and a further engine upgrade at my leisure. This didn't pan out, my future requirements no longer include a race car so i've pulled the entire power train and fitted it to my 1500FWD bodyshell.
SO, WHAT IS FOR SALE?
What is offered is a complete glazed and wired bodyshell, all lights and brightwork are also present. It has the excellent club made GRP wings and front valance, a recent NOS inner front panel, NOS N/S doorskin, NOS bootlid. It has a "quick rack" and Dolomite adjustable steering column with all switchgear, a Dolomite steering wheel and an improved multi-instrument dash with a bespoke dash loom. The main loom is mostly Sprint. Door cards and rear quarter trims are present in original Grey vinyl. A steel rear firewall has been fitted but a seat can still go in if you want. Also included is the hens-teeth-rare Toledo fuel tank in perfect condition. With the car also comes a NOS N/S/R complete quarter panel, NOS inner and outer rear valance panels, a club sill diaphragm panel and a repairable used boot floor. With the car is a V5 in my name, correctly registered as 1998cc, some history including an original bill of sale, MOTs since 2011 and a heritage certificate.
Original and unwelded (thanks to Ziebart) flitches, legs, subframe mounts, bulkhead, scuttle, screen frame, roof and posts, front and rear floor pans. Drivers and passenger doors and bonnet are all in first class shape. rear suspension pickup points are all sound.
To facilitate transport I have made it into a "rolling shell" by adding the redundant 1500FWD front subframe, suspension and "dead" rear axle beam. these parts should be considered disposable. It rolls on the 15" MGF 5 spoke rims and 195/50/15 Toyo Proxes it always had 2 tyres are good, 2 not so good.
SO, WHAT'S WRONG?
It needs work on the rear end of both sills and jacking points and the front end of the N/S sill and jacking point. Both rear lower quarters and both rear arches need attention and the boot floor is mostly lace. There are also a couple of small (50p size) holes where the front flitches meet the bulkhead and a crack in the o/s flitch outboard of the turret. The paintwork is very tired.
So, I won't deny it needs work, but it's eminently salvagable and I need hardly remind anyone of the rarity and desirability of these 2 door cars. Though i've not done anything irreversible to stop it returning to standard condition, I think it's future lies with a larger engine, whether Sprint or something else, the choice is as big as your imagination!
You are welcome, indeed advised, to come and see for yourself what is here.
I'm looking for offers in the region of £1000.
Thanks for looking, Steve
PS, If you are interested and want to discuss it further, PM me on here in the first instance and i'll give you my phone number!
PPS, if you are thinking of re-engineering with a bigger powerplant, I have available by separate negotiation, a zero mile Sprint axle (Mad Mart built) a mint 1850 subframe, a pair of 3 series BMW tilt/recline alcantara seats and lots more stuff.
