Does anyone know if skimming the head throws off the timing?
I am guessing OMK 172R has had a head job once or twice in its life.

Well tonight, I set the timing at 4 degrees BTDC, instead of the factory 10 degrees. The pinking went away and the engine runs as smooth and quiet as a baby ...

Re: Rear brakes: What a joke
I have looked under my Sprint. She has the proper rear axle.
But now I have to pull the drums again and make sure the proper wheel handed cylinders are in place. The way my car was put back together, anything is possible.
Re: Rear brakes: What a joke
Well, I did tighten up the brake cables, and that did make a big difference.
The cables were so loose that the self-adjusting feature on the rear brakes was not functioning.

The car does now stop much better and the pedal is a good bit firmer. Still, the size of those shoes seems ...

Rear brakes: What a joke
Before tonight, I have never had cause to pull off the brake drums on OMK 172R or my previous Sprint, OUD 777P. However, the pedal was going down a bit too far and the hand-brake wasn't grabbing well enough. So, I took off the drums to have a look.
Suspension: Springs and Things
Over the Winter my Dolly Sprint, OMK 172R, is going to get a few minor upgrades. I want to stiffen the ride a bit.

Does anyone know which springs are best, the heavy duty springs which keep the ride height the same, or the uprated springs, which lower the height about an inch.
Waterpumps...
...I just yanked the original factory fitted water pump out of my 1973 Stag. The car had not run in 14 years. But the previous owner had drained the cooling system. The pump came out, cage and all, extremely easily. It was not corroded, but the seal had perished. There was no rust or schmootz to be ...

Re: Which one?
A Ford Mustang.
I bought a new-shape 2005 Mustang in light blue. I use that as my commuter car. I can't -- and won't -- risk the Sprint for that duty around Detroit.

The '05 Mustang is a decent car. Mine has a 4.0-liter V-6, 210-horsepower. 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and 23 mpg to boot. It's a ...

Re: LHD Dolly Sprint with LSD on the 'bay
I do have a photo of OMK 172R, the white 1977 restored Dolly Sprint I bought last Fall and OUD 777P, the red 1975 Dolly I bought last Spring but sold to a man in Georgia. There was about a week when I had both cars in my driveway. I think there's a Mustang in the background.
Get a load of this.
The dude was asking $11,000 for it on the Vintage Triumph website.

I would not want a left-hooker. Look where the brake master cylinder is -- right above the exhaust manifold.
I have not seen a Sprint with that sort of sunroof before...
Re: Hot gearstick & disgruntled girlfriend!
If you are moving at fast highway speeds, don't rule out heat from the engine.

I never knew my Sprint's transmission tunnel was improperly fitted until I took the car on a 90-mile blast up the highway a few weeks ago. Driving around town it was totally normal. But at about 80 mph, the heat ...

I did also switch to the 12-vane pump cover.
I guess I just must have got a bad new pump. It was in a Unipart box, which may explain it.
A Sprint/1850 Water Pump Question
Does anyone know if it is possible to install a water pump in the Sprint or an 1850 wrong so that it would leak slightly from the drain hole?
I mean, once you turn the impellor and the pump goes down into position, that's basically it, right. And if the pump leaks from the drain hole, then the ...
