AARRGGHHHH........... After stripping the sprints' 'other' motor to almost nothing I headed for the distinctly dodgy looking water pump - and of course the stud sheared <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> ...... Any advice on how deep this bolt goes so I don't go overboard when trying to drill it out? I may even just drop the bare block at a local machine shop but I guarantee they won't have seen a Dolly Sprint block for decades if ever! HELP!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Not very deep 3/4 inch - remember this is a left hand thread. Drilling it out is normally quite easy, you can then use a small left hand stud extractor, I seem to remember the last one I did the sheer fact of drilling it out loosened the remains of the bolt and it could be undone with a screwdriver!

Put a new bolt on there, with a penny washer under it - two levers under the washer and pop the pump out, then you can see if the cage remains in the block or not.

Do the decent thing and swap it for a leccy pump, the club has all the engine bits and you can get the leccy pump from loads of places.

Re: Sheared Bolt - Water Pump
thanks Ben, I'll be trying that, hopefully this evening. In response to carsreunited - I'm over in Brussels - from the photo on your post it seems you're the one way up north who had the bonnet bulge and extractors coming up over the top - I remember the car was for sale..... did it go or did you buy it?
