F1 Malaysia

#1 Post by MaddMart » Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:41 am

Another win for Renault, is anyone going to catch them this year? Kimi's having some bad luck & would be up there. Honda are going to have to pull out all the stops to improve that car if they want to win a race...let alone a championship.

Its early days still - the grid was all over the shop on Sunday after all the engine swaps. Renault have the upper hand at the moment but It wouldn't surprise me if Ferrari were back at the top when they get back to europe. I'm not sure about Maclaren's pace, Montoya has been average in 2 races now and Kimi seems to carry a curse.

The Honda is looking like it might be the same alsoran as in 2004 though, always the bridesmaid!

Qualifying is a big improvement this year.
Ahh, someone on here is interseted in F1 <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Must admit after Button passed him twice last weekend and beat him easily this weekend, either the McLaren or Juan Pablo is slow. I still don't think Ferrari have got a good car yet but as you say, early days...I still think Renault will get the Constructors championship again this year, if not both.

Button drove the best he could, put him in a Renault & he'd probably win the driver's championship.

I agree, the qualifying is much better, although I'm still not quite clear on the fuelling for the last session. I'll have to read up on that.

F1 Hmmm

What about that other fantastic race at the weekend..

First, there is that “historic” tag, referring to the advent, and victory, of a diesel-powered race car. Putting the new Porsche prototype to shame.
And what a race car it is. Those who know this sport, but had not encountered Audi’s R10 before this, read all the descriptions, and they say they believed them; but they didn’t adequately describe the power, the launch from corners, the ethereal whisper and whine of its tires and gears – where in that the sound of the diesel V12 is....
It has that elbow-to-the-ribs, “You have to see this” kind of impact. For all of that, most people thought it might not finish, and they were half right. The “other half” won. Giving Tom Kristensen his fourth overall victory, breaking him out of a log jam with Mario Andretti, Phil Hill, Oliver Gendebien, Hans Stuck, and Frank Biela. It was a drive that Tom shared with Allan McNish and Dindo Capello. That’s an all-star team, isn’t it? And the defending champions were in the other R10.

Sebring - The Audi R10, what a car, what a race.

F1, nope I don't think I'll bother.

think ferrari are going to be awsome when they come to europe slight engine problems think that compromised their race in malaysia but it will be sorted and schumi is still the best driver out there
as for oilburners how did you manage to see the cars with all the smoke from them cant be very exciting
Oil smoke - Do keep up James.

#7 Post by bodgerben » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:31 am

Yup, my ancient perception of oil smoke, clatter and lack of go have now gone.

There, oh yes, and that's what I meant with the "you have to see this" - there's a few things missing from the A10, smoke is one of them, here's a picture of the A10 accelerating hard out of the hairpin:

The Audi is in the process of rubbing Porsche and Lola's nose in it. The Ferrari's, Astons, Corvette's and the like are in a lower class and obviously have no chance against the A10.

There is only a few months to go, and all those going over to Le Mans will have a chance to see this fantastic car in action (and no I'm not going to Le Mans, been there done that (too many times), ever since some prat decided to put Euro 96 screens in Tribunes it's been going downhill. Tribunes was the place to camp - right next to the Dunlop bridge within 2 mins of the circuit, now a bloody fun fair extension. Still, they have done loads of track changes this year.

Without doubt F1 is the pinacle of motorsport, boring but the most advanced. Audi come along and produce an oil burner that humbles the best Porsche prototype, and is already putting the technology in its cars, how does a 3 litre, 233bhp 368lbft torque at 1750rpm engine sound, bloody quiet is the answer.

This is why I love Sportscars. Rotaries, bio-ethanol, diesel, good 'ol petrol, heavy & powerful, light & lean, open top, closed top and more besides all competitive against each other (OK, not all of the above at the same time)

Farce 1 is a game of spot the difference. It's a major story when somebody moves a faring 3mm. Boooooring!

And as Ben says, Audi are using technology developed on their sportscars on real road cars today. There's f1 techology in the Mclaren f1, Veryron, Enzo and thats about it. Unless you count ceramic brakes but I'm not 100% certain they were born in F1 and they cost more than an average road car on their own.

I dislike the Money Parade that much that I think it is a shame that this years rule changes seem to have 'helped' . There have been seasons with less real overtaking maneuvers that there have been so far this year. A real shame as it looked for a good while like F1 was on the point of dissappearing up it's own diamond encrusted @r$ehole. If that had happened maybe they'd have put some motorSPORT on the TV instead.

If you change your mind Ben I've got some spare camping tickets.
