Trackday Tyres

#1 Post by MaddMart » Thu Apr 06, 2006 1:38 pm

Ok, after finishing off my Avon ACB10s at Mallory, I need replacements. Various people mentioned the Yokos (soft not very soft) but I can't recall the number or where to get them from. What about the Toyo R888s.

All suggestions welcome.

Not too sure about how good the Toyos are, but...
Have a pretty good price if they are any good. Although I'm not sure if I got the dimensions right on the tyre (185/60R13V)

Yoko A032R's in soft compound (not supersoft) or if your feeling flush some dunlop formula r's.

Demon Tweeks sell them all but locally I think Bridge Tyres might do them also - a bit more localwww.bridgetyres.co.uk
Or, more of a budget tyre but I have the same brand on the TVR.
I'm really impressed with them. Got to be worth a go, would save you having to change wheels as well.
How about Colway. Good enough for Porsche so they should do the trick for occasional track use on a Dolly, nice and cheap too.

They used to suffer delaminated problems as Colway are (were?) remoulded tyres. I think they have got over that now though.

I've been speaking to a couple of people and have been hearing very positive about the Toyo 888's.
Why don't you try Dunlop D84J Formula R?

Where's the best place to get them? Do you PHTC racers get them cheap(er) as Dunlop sponsor the series?
Can't remember getting a discount. Worked out about £75 per tyre as opposed to £55 per tyre for the AO32 Yoko's I had.
Thanks for that Scott. How long do they last by the way?
I would imagine Ken can answer that more accurately but I've been told at least one season.

(I've only done maybe 40 laps on mine so far and they hardly look used at all.)
Colway

I'm with dollysteve on this - Colway come highly recommended.

I just can't get any in 185/85 R13, which sadly I need. I only have one inch clearance between my exhaust and the road...

For mainstrem tyres, the place to shop is www.mytyres.co.uk IMO - german bunch, cheap tyres, free delivery. (Next day for the ones I ordered)

Yokohama

I've got a part worn set of Yokohama A032Rs (soft) on the way. Should tied me over for a few trackdays.

You will love them. They seem stickier than the Dunlops but then they obviously wear quicker. I would have given you a shot of mine but they are already promised to another.
I was speaking with Graeme's bro-in-law at CC the other week and I mentioned the Toyo R888s. He knows someone who is using them and says they are brilliant. About £56 each is the cheapest I've seen them.
