Buying a Dolomite, to rally

#1 Post by Manta V8 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 1:13 pm

Hi to all in the dolomite world, My friend and I are in the early stages of buying a Dolomite.
At the moment he has a Stag and a Dolomite sprint, I on the other hand am more into A Series Mantas, my car is on my web site. http://www.mantamagic.com.
Ok I have a few questions, what newbee,s don't <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">
The Dolomite that we will buy is for doing some old rallies, nothing to cutting edge, it's just for some fun,
We have a Sprint engine and gearbox spare at the moment and we were thinking that we could buy a 1300, 1500 1850 car and put the sprint engine ,gearbox, back axle into, but on reading some of your threads it seems that you also have to change the front subframe and wiring loom, WHY is this ?
The 1850 "we think" is almost the same engine as the sprint would we have to change the subframe if we bought an 1850 ?
The reason we had thought of buying a lower model car than the sprint was that they seem to be plenty of them out there and a better shell would be easier come by, Would we be better getting a Sprint and then pick up a lower model for a spare shell. Are we right in thinking that the shells are identical and all mounting holes are the same so that everything will bolt into.
Does anyone here do old rallies in their Dolomite's

Thanks Robbie
