They are welded on. You can also get fibre glass ones but I was told not to bother with them.

If you can weld Id imagine theyd be easy to do <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Easy enough to put on Todd, but without being too demoralising you will have two problems:

1: if the outer wings have rusted there will be a can of worms beneath - inner wings, wheel arch, bulkhead, headlamp panel, floor pan, cill closure...it goes on

2: the last time a supplier listed front wings new they were £290 plus VAT each. Good second hand ones appear time to time but beware who you buy from...

Have a look at my current project its typical of what lurks beneath! The car is now being prepped for spraying' must put some updated pics on...

Oh boy...you're scaring me.

You know for my budget, this may not be the thing to do??

Unless of course I get extremely lucky!

Perhaps a Stag to haul the family in? At least I don't have to pay $1400 to ship the car.

Thanks again Alun...great stuff!
Thing is though, you can get a whole dolomite 1300 for less than £290, and it will probably be in solid condition for that money. Used wings are probably 50-70 in good condition, but will need to be resprayed. Which part of the US are you in? obviously if it's up north in one of the states where the roads are salted it'll be more of a concern.

Don't be put off. They don't come much worse than VLK!

What I would stress is you get someone to look at your prospective purchase for you so you don't buy and ship a lemon. If you are considering a Stag instead then your budget should stretch to a relatively tidy one including shipping.

There was a guy selling a Sprint in the States a while back; he imported one and then bought a better one. I was tempted by his first one before it was shipped but he got to the seller before I did! There was a link to it on the ebay thread a while back...Richard Truitt...? Memory, not what it used to be...

Sprint already imported

#36 Post by dolomiteusa » Sat Oct 29, 2005 3:00 pm

There's another sprint on e-bay. Yellow. Pics are very fuzzy so I have a feeling it's not what it seems, but one never knows??? As you say, have someone look at it, but that's the hard part. Who?

The one that was imported to the states was sold(I think?) to a guy in Atlanta. He flew to Detroit, MI with a Mate (originally from the UK) & bought the car. He bought the car & brought it by my house as he agreed to buy 2 TR differentials from me. That's when I decided I wanted to make a go of getting a sprint!
Welll...

You could try my Russet brown one...
It will have an MoT by the end of this week...
Its sound structurally...have done cills and chassis rail.
Could do with a bit more paint. If you can live with the colour I'll get you some pics...
That would save me registering it for this year....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Happy to look at this one...send me the URL and if its not too far I'll look.
As you say the pictures are appaling, but it looks very tidy and fairly original. The LSD is a big plus, but the negative is that it has been stood for a while, meaning pipes and hoses might have decayed, brakes and clutch might be seized, and so on, plus any work that needs to be done to make it road-worthy.

The yellow one could/would be perfect for me if it needs brakes, exhaust, clutch...of course providing the body is not too far gone.

Anyone able to look?

Cheers,
Yellow Sprint on E-bay

#42 Post by dolomiteusa » Mon Oct 31, 2005 9:18 pm

I did get in touch with the seller. Sounds like it too will be out of my range, but one never knows. Definitely worth pursuing...here's the answer...

Hi-Todd I'm afraid i've not got any clearer pics.It is definately an original sprint according to the log book. The only rust patch is accross the bottom of the N/S/R door, all floors, sills inner&outer boot floor inner wings crossmembers & chassis rails are absolutely solid.Even the outer panels bonnet ,boot lid ,wings etc are rust free.If you lift the carpets on floors & sills it is still the original yellow paint. The interior is black cloth with no rips or tears. When i first bought the car i had it valued for insurance purposes by our local Triumph club they valued it at £3000 so the car is in good shape,i have still got the written confirmation of this,if you would like more info drop me a line.Claire1768
I've been in touch with this very knowledgeable female owner too (without wishing to sound sexist, I'm sure its a bloke using his wife's id) about getting decent pictures and confirming the LSD. If I was closer I'd look for you but if they are thinking that they are going to get anywhere near 3k based on those blurry pictures then I'm sure it will be back on again within a few weeks. Hopefully with decent pictures.
Don't take the the log book bit as gospel. My blue one has 'Dolomite Sprint' on the log book but the shell and registration started life as an 1850. The clue is in the fact that the chassis number starts WF instead of VA. In my case the PO made no secret of this and supplied a copy of a letter stating that it started life as an 1850 HL auto. If you are spending top dollar on a sprint get its history looked into.

My 2nd rustomite VA41 is a reshell too, the body is a lot younger than the registration (still completely shot tho <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> )

What sheets the bit out of me is why the 1850 registration and chassis number were kept instead of the sprint ones.
Switching Chassis plates

#45 Post by dolomiteusa » Wed Nov 02, 2005 1:04 am

I suppose it's not unheard of to switch the chassis plate in order to pass another Dolomite model off as a Sprint?

Got a reply back from the seller...he/she works shifts & offered mobile. Gettin' a bad feeling about this one
