Toledo speedo

#1 Post by alan bond » Tue Jul 18, 2006 10:23 pm

The mileometer on my toledo had seized 33074. This was the approx mileage of the car in 1990. So I thought I would have a go at getting it working again WRONG. I have replaced the speedo with one that came with it but it is from a dolomite and when travelling bears no resembelance to the actual speed. Needless to say I am now looking for a complete speedo for a toledo any ideas.
you need a speedo from a 1300 dolly, which will be the same gearing etc, or you'll need the little gear thing from the gearbox to match the speedo from whatever car you rob the speedo from to ensure the reading is accurate
I believe all Speedos fitted to Dollies are 1000 turns-per-mile, so any should do it as long as the speedo drive on the back of the gearbox matches the diff ratio in the axle. Maybe you have just been unluckty with your replacement one?
I just spent 10 minutes writing a post correcting Jod about the 1000 turns per mile he was talking about. But no realise he meant per mile! Not mile per hour on the speedo

I've had a 3.63 axle and a 4.11 on my 1850 with the same speedo. It isn't that noticeable the speedos out

...or perhaps he didn't get it reading high enough for the percentage difference to show...?

Who needs a speedo when all you need to do is measure the length of the skid-marks afterwards!
This one DOES NOT have any lights in it, so I guess it's not the right one after all (though it does have the button on the front for the trip.)

If you do want it Alan (maybe the internals can be swapped) let me have your email.
Adam's one is the same.

If it does not sell Adam, list it on eBay as an MG Midget 1500 one, then some chinese bloke will pay 60 quid for it, just like my one
