manifold heatwrap
manifold heatwrap
I'm sure we've all read the "advertised" benifits of this wrap/tape stuff for ex manifold, reduced temps etc,
but has anyone actually used it?
is it worth the hassle/cost
due to be reassembling engine this week and may use this ..any thoughts?...

Re: manifold heatwrap
i sell it (the plain white ceramic fibre stuff) in 30m rolls to the boat trade, and also custom chrome (my nice exhaust making buddies)

with the climate conditions going the way they are, id say worth doing...

30m is a bit much for 1 car though, even if i did you a deal!

project orange - slow progress
project black - coming on, could be sold...
project white - pimp my tolly, next year!

Re: wrap
How much Kev? Little Blue and Orange and the missississes mini all have the exhaust under the carb(s) so would benefit, no need on Blue especially since the rad swap
Re: wrap
That's what I was thinking but wouldn't mind giving it a go, seeing as my engine is out anyway.

Re: wrap
ok folks, here goes:

its 3mm thick (would squash a bit thinner)
its 75mm wide
roll is 30m long

price to you guys per roll will be £22.50 + 4.50 (carrier) + vat

Obviously I can lose the carriage if I take it to a show, or someone collects, or I can drop off "not a million miles out my way" etc etc

If someone fancies taking 4 rolls I'll throw in a free 2.5 L bottle of TFR!!!

Chq, cash, Visa, MC, AMEX, Maestro etc etc all fine

You can get me at work on 0 7 7 6 7

8 3055 6

however... on a sprint, seriously, why bother trying??

1 - the heat source is on the opposite side of the lump from the carbs so the fuel heating thing is not really an issue
2 - its a solid cast turd that butts right up to the head, how are you going to wrap it? IMO you'd be better off painting it with matt black heat disperser paint, stove paint or the like, and possibly wrapping the down pipe, I thought the idea was to pull heat away from the head ?!
far more use on a 1300 or 1500, or mini, or metro where the manifold lives under the carb (s)

Re: wrap
sincerely, no probs.

I can see there'd be mileage in wrapping the downpipe on a sprint, particularly where it goes near painted bodywork, pipework etc, and it may help by making a small reduction in under bonnet temp as a result, but really thats coincidental and only really a benefit when you're sat in a queue.

I'm obviously not intentionally dicking myself out of a few £ on my sales figures (in the whole scheme of things it'd only be interesting in that respect if someone called wanting to take 50+ rolls, less than that in fairness is insignificant to me really), just a matter of thinking about how to spend money on a car in a practical and productive way.

OHV people - slightly different story, and certainly more of an advantage in making the effort and parting with a few £.

Anyway - if there are any takers, the offer stands, normal price in the order of £35+vat, so I guess its not bad really. One roll would happily do 2 cars with change I'd guess.

end of wrap banter, I bid this thread farewell!

BONSOIR!
