For me, the move has been put on hold for a while. For my family it hasn't. It's very complicated and is to do with the British Justice System thinking that I won't return to this country to face trial. Like I'm going to go on the run for the rest of my life with a young family! As a result, I'll be seperated from my wife and kids for months at a time. I hate this f@*king country more than ever now.

Hi Scott, apart from the colour which I have never thought flattered them, it looked very good. Unfortunately it had been 'buy it nowed' by the time I saw this. Good price though.

I'll drop you a mail shortly; poss tonight. Under the cosh a bit workwise at the moment...

No probs. The buy it now was a hoax. I've had a read up and will go and see it after 8pm I think tonight. I've seen cheaper on PH and ebay but this one certainly seems tastefully owned. The colour is a bit bleugh but I want something that will sell quickly if I need to. What's the going rate for a hard-top? I've got one on the watch list in Azure Blue that looks mint. £550 start bid though.
Forget the hard top; sizeable and awkward to store, pain in the ass to fit (two man job) and the soft top is more than adequate enoughif fitted carefully. They were £1200 new in primer.

Things to look for are:

Head problems, less common on the Elise, but common enough on K series.

The undertray will vibrate and drone; accept it. It can be adjusted but it will return. Its like living next to a railway (but not as loud) you get used to it.

Knocks and clunks from the front end are the shock mounts; they are mounted at a peculiar angle so they knock when going over rough ground. Again, can be adjusted but it returns in 50 miles or so (sounds like a dolomite wheel bearing)

The driver's seat and cill cover will have worn through; you can see the cill cover is worn in the photo's. This is redolent of crap design rather than high mileage; I had my cill cover replaced under warranty after about 3k miles! Place in Rubery will repair cheaply, next time I'm getting the black cloth bits replaced with black leather.

Check rear bonnet release for stiffness, they point upwards so water get in and then they snap.

Check both bonnets for contact dmage on the main clamshells.

Check accelerator cable for sheath stiffness; it takes a contorted route from front to back

A car of this age will have had the aluminium matrix discs and pads, neither of which are available any more. If it hasn't yet been converted (because the pads do eventually wear out) then it could be a grandsworth plus looming.

If on original paint the front clamshell and cill covers will be stone chipped.

There's probably more, but I need to concentrate to focus on it and need to get back to work. Cheaper, yes, but 41k is not too bad mileage, theer are some with astronomic mileages around; mines on an R and just done 30k

I'm in Tewksbury this evening else I would have offered to meet you there...could do Wednesday

Thanks Alun. Tomorrows the only day he couldn't do. I think the brakes might have been done as you can see a little surface rust. I'll take a magnet with me just in case. I won't bother with the hard-top then. I drove one a few years ago for about 400 miles so I know they are an obsessive compulsive rattlers nightmare. That doesn't bother me. I've wanted one since I saw it at the Earls Court Motor Show in 95 or 96. The Cerbera box has been ticked and its time to move on!
Alun. What sports exhaust system have you got on yours? Have you heard better since? I don't want something too noisy. 113db's on the sprint is enough for me!
Does that mean you bought it?

My system is Christopher Neil's own system, was about £300 for the back box, the rest is standard including the cat. I haven't heard better since and neither apparently has anyone else! I keep getting 'Ferarri at full chat' compliments!

Off who? Saxo owners?

Good car no doubt but isn't it just a K series engine after all.

To the trained ear you couldn't mistake a 4 pot for a V8/12

Adam, you are so precocious sometimes! You once said my V8 cerb sounded like a rally Mk2 Escort. (It sort of does as well).

As to your question Alun. Pretty much. Small formality to sort out on Saturday and that's it. By 1pm it should be in my possession. Might come back via Stourbridge if you are around?

Despite Adam's comment, I can see where you are coming from re the fez sound. Its that high revving whooshing noise, not quite the same depth of sound as Ferrari but suprisingly similar.
All I meant is that it was a 4 cylinder and I can't imagine it sounding like a V12.

It is a very nice car

And I don't have a clue what the first part of your post is on about, minus the TVR bit

I didn't think you were slagging it although the K does have many detractors. Its the stag engine of its era! If you ever have the opportunity of getting Alun to pass you at full chat whilst you are driving along merrily, you might be able to make the comparison. Doesn't sound anything like one at idle.
