Well the Punto has rear self-adjusters so you probably need to wind them out to compensate for the wear on the shoes?

If you get underneath the car the adjuster is just behind where the handbrake comes through the floor and this can be used to take the slack out of the cable, if there is any

Should be 4 clicks on the ratchet standard, I think.

If it's just happening as a result of a recent cable change, there was a bit of an issue with different length cables a while back...

Quote:
To adjust the cable you turn the small 'key' bar clockwise to tighten the cable and anti clock wise to loosen the cable. Using a decent set of pliers or a shifting spanner should give enough hold to turn the 'key'

Note that you don't need full access to the turning of the key as only a small few turns are usually ever needed to adjust the cable properly. If your cable needs a lot of adjustment I'd recommend a new cable coz it's obviously done.

If you let me know what year it is i`ll take a look in the workshop manuals, we have the proper fiat ones in the library. From memory though the only adjusment is on handbrake travel, this is adjusted via a nut under the handbrake lever, you`ll need to slide the gaiter out the way first.

I bet their rear lights don't work very well; crap, even by Italian electric standards. I understand it was one of the reasons for the redesign...

Yer Alun your right! One of them has only one brake light and the other had one much brighter than the other.

There crap cars, absolute sh1t. And these boys wanted these cars! One of them has a 1.1 (55hp) and the other a 1.2 (60hp), the 1.1 is so slow my car would hold it off if I pulled away normally! He wouldn't come out driving with me cos I was to fast for him

FWD, small engined, PITA to work on, twice as expensive to buy...

Why ever did I buy a 1.8/2 litre, RWD car from the 70's?

Mildly better. Had a go of his car today, you can lock one of the wheels in reverse with the hand brake but sometimes it doesn't hold you on hills.
there a bitch to get at, I can see an adjuster mechanism under the hand brake gator (one of the boys cars has his gator ripped) but you cant get at it! Looks like the cables need to come off then the adjsuter twisted a few times then the cables hooked back on.

I've also got the keys to a Fiat Tipo that the owner wants me to find out why its got dodgy brakes and clutch... Other than an X1/9 I'd ever consider a Fiat!
