Tether the goat to avoid further incident, take the plugs out and spray some oil down the bores. Clean and gap the plugs (or renew) and replace points as the will have corroded. Check there is oil in the sump. Remove rocker cover and lubricate the top end liberally with oil. Turn the engine to start with by hand (if you can). When its moving freely connect a fuel can with fresh fuel to the fuel pump having first primed the float chamber(s) with fresh fuel. Connect a fully charged battery and have a go...

Fuel: Any one of LRP, 97 unleaded, Optimax (98 ron), BP ultimate (98 ron) or Tesco unleaded 99 RON (only ten outlets trialing it I'm told) would be fine. 4 star was 99.7 ron, if you are close to one of the sellers listed <a href="http://www.leadedpetrol.co.uk/list.htm" ... you could treat it to a litre but I wouldn't bother.

I'd leave the sparkplugs out while you turn it over by hand and once you've done that to your satisfaction turn it over on the starter still with the plugs out. This will refill all the internal oilways as swiftly as possible.
TIPS

#6 Post by al the brit » Sun Sep 11, 2005 1:25 am

Thanks for all the advice about the engine, Ive spent some time reading though the different posting, and have seen remarks about the sierra brake conversion kit. Does this improve braking considerabley & what is in the conversion kit?

Or seeing as this is a single owner car, would i be been to restore to its natural condition? Having said that does any1 know a easy way too repair Goat Dents!!!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Just to let you all know, ive already decided to take on restoration instead of sell for bits.

All the advice is great & its good to no thank on the upcoming winters nights there r ppl to help when I get stuck!!
I'm not sure anyones done the conversion on a 1300. You could be the first.

Well, have to say I admire your intentions. I saw it myself on ebay and thought it would probably sit in its resting place for another 10 years. Let us know how you get on and join the TDC if you haven't already. As a member you will have access to panels and service parts that you are unlikely to find on ebay. You will always get advice from this board regardless.

Good luck.
What a shame

#8 Post by al the brit » Tue Sep 13, 2005 7:15 pm

Well What a shame!!!!!!!!!!!

when i went to collect the car, the guy attached the tractor to drag it out the field, and 1 of the wheels moved.

He pulled it on to a piece of concreate, and i got a look at the car. Both back wings were shot, the drivers side doors both eaten though. The sub frame started to come away in big lumps in my hand!! It gets worse.......

The drivers door is unlocked, yet couldnt be opened at all so we couldnt even get into it.

The interior is in a faded creamy yellow and with a good clean would be fantastic.. no rips or burns. All the carpets are there & the glass in the windows are very good though all the rubber seals and completely shot but not as bad as the chassis which is computley rotten.

The guy has said that if anyone wants anything off this car ie GLASS or INTERIOR then you can have it for free, however it would need collecting ASAP.

Im disappointed in respect that i was looking forward to a project, however the work required to rebuild this 1300 is too much for me. I offered the guy the £9 & we settled on a fiver.

He has said that he will get it Crushed at the beginning of next week so if you want it then you will need to collect it before then. It based 3 miles north west of Huddersfield.

Not being a expert i dont know whats had to get hold off, i hope 1 of you guys can make use of this car as i cant

That is a shame but not unexpected. As has been said, look through the 'free to a good home' section'. I found a 1500TC on there that has the most solid original shell I've ever seen on any dolomite. I gave the owner £40 because I felt guilty for having it for nothing! It hadn't been on the road for 5 years and cost £700 to recommission it but it was well worth it. Steve Wilkes now owns it.

Gets Your Goat

#12 Post by MalcGE » Wed Sep 14, 2005 8:25 pm

When a car is too far gone to restore...... or is that the car is too far gone to restore cos someone already got their Goat, you must be at the end of your tether, even if the Goat isn't. Damn decent of you to part with a fiver IMHO
