front brake conversion
front brake conversion
im converting my front brakes to vented disks from a mk2 golf and calipers from a mk4 fiesta. the golf disks were the closest match to the originals as i couls find but the calipert carriers arent availiable new and second hand carriers being 20years old. so i decided to use fiesta calipers as the use the same size disks but the caliper carriers are availiable new and there is more chance of finding them used and in good condition.

what should the clearence be between the hub and disk centre hole?

how much was the sierra conversion the last time a lot was made?

Thanks, Paul

Re: front brake conversion
Hi Paul,

Which variant of golf disks are you using? I've often pondered a conversion using golf II parts as they are so cheap. Hadn't got as far as discovering one bit was unobtainable tho.

The measurement you need, not sure exactly where you mean. If its the one I think then there's 3 values:

The green line is probably the only one that needs to be accurate as both surfaces are machined. The shallow chamfer (red) and the steeper chamfer in the 4 rebates (yellow) are cast surfaces so probably just for clearance on something.

Green: 17.5mm
Red: 14.5mm
Yellow: 9.5mm

These are not easy to measure accurately. Before you go to machining get in touch and I'll get it on a surface plate and do the job properly.

Where abouts are you?
.
in comparison they are tiny they are a little small. the calipers im using are off a 2003 ford Ka, which use the same size pads and have the same size piston as the sierra calipers.

thanks for the link, i needed to know how the disks were fastened to the hubs for the sierra conversion.
Sierra Conversion
I have some pics & notes on my website. The whole operation to do the conversion was covered in the DM.

I have all the details for the conversion & have emailed them to several interested parties.

Re: Sierra Conversion
The Ka caliper piston's are a different size to the Sierra.
Not sure if that's a good or bad thing?.
sierra calipers
Mine came from 2 litre Sierra, although they are the same as the 1993 1994 escorts with vented 240 mm discs.
