Sprint water pump extraction

#1 Post by hez37 » Fri Apr 23, 2004 6:59 pm

You chaps diagnosed my sprint with a duff water pump about 8 weeks ago. I ordered the repair kit from Rimmers which arrived the next day, but I still haven't got the extractor tool. Various chaps at Rimmers have told me several tales, e.g. it's out of stock, it's in stock but hasn't made it through clearing, etc. As the weather's getting warmer it's a job I need to do. Do you know of any other tool I can use? A pal mentioned a slide hammer, but I thought these were mainly meant for pulling dents. Any help would be appreciated.

The extractor tool is actually a slide hammer. I'm sure it's easy enough to make something up if you have a spare w/pump bolt (LH thread), a piece of bar & a welder. I've been meaning to do this but haven't got round to it yet. Even with the "special tool" you quite often leave the brass cage behind in the block.

Were very useful - saw how it worked and cobbled together an old hub puller, a large screwdriver and a spanner - took about 5 seconds to remove.<br>

It's a job I'll need to do and not be left ordering any more parts. Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
