Re: Free Racing Seminar!!!
Right,

The day is approaching and I'm looking forward to meeting up with anybody that comes along.

To confirm, we are aiming to be at Jigsaw's premises for 12 noon on Saturday the 4th October. My mobile number is going to be at the bottom of this post so if anybody gets lost, give me a call and I'll try and talk you in. Try and call if you are en-route and are going to be 10 or 15 minutes late and then we can hold on until you arrive.

I will assume that all those that have posted will be coming along. If you have had to change your plans and can't come along then just drop me a line or stick a post on. Sooner rather than later so that I don't overstock on the buscuits!

ANY MORE TAKERS??
Saturday with Biscuit's
Don't think I can make Saturday,
Still struggling to put the V8 Sprint back together(For Retro mag only got till Monday),
Damage my Elbow a month or so ago,
So everything I'm doing take's longer?,
Told today may be a trapped tendon and could need surgery,

Prehaps may be at next one.
Re: Saturday with Biscuit's
Having followed the other posts regarding the magazine article I thought you might be struggling to accomplish all tasks and get up to Jigsaws.

Thanks for letting me know and good luck with the engine. I'll be taking some notes on the day with a view to posting a step by step guide on what you need and costs.

Ask retro cars if they will be interested in doing a road going racer article in February/March next year as mine should be done by then or an article on TDC memebers with modified sprints for Motorsport.

Cheers,
Seminar Day
Thanks to Mark for the tea and Biscuits on Saturday! And to Scott for the shandy.

In the end it was just Scott, Martin and Myself who attended (plus a brief appearance from Andrew Chesney), and Scott was the only one of us seriously intending entering a race series. If this is the sort of interest in racing we get then getting a Dolomite exclusive race series running (in the short term at least) won't be feasible. As a guide most successful race series seem to be 20-30 cars to stay alive.

The general consensus from speaking to Mark is that it may be possible to enter a couple of cars in the TSSC/TR register race series next year initially on an invitation basis (subject to approval by the series organisers). If all goes well they may allow Dolomites to be included in the 'modified up to 3 litre category' but thats going to be at least a season down the road.

Scott is very keen and has the means to properly prepare a car to the required technical standard and run it for a season. Scott has agreed to keep a log of his experiences, costs, etc which can be available as a guide to those who may be interested.

What was apparent is that anyone considering racing a car should budget for £2500 to £3500 a season assuming the car has no major damage or mechanical failures during this period.

Whilst this amount of spare income is (at present) not within my grasp, its pocket change in motorsport circles, and I would imagine considerably cheaper than competing in the Post Historic's. I'm sticking with Sprints and Hillclimbs for the foreseeable future but we will watch with hope and interest how Scott gets on with his entry. Anything we can do to strengthen the case for inclusion in this series must be encouraged.

If there is still anyone else out there interested in racing next year I'm sure Scott wouldn't mind them picking his brains.

It was also exciting to see Mark's original Spa 24hrs racer albiet with some of the nice engine bits missing. It would make a good car article for Dolly Mixture as its very significant find.

Re: Seminar Day
Many thanks to Mark for holding the seminar, though it was a shame that the turnout wasn't as high as it could have been.Maybe future events could be planned well in advance so that the details can be published in Dolly Mixture? We have to remember that not all members have access to this forum.
How about a report on the seminar for DM,Graeme?
Mark's Sprint is indeed most impressive,as visitors to our stand at the Stoneleigh show last February will testify.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
Re: Seminar Day
First of all, thank you Mark and Jo for taking time out to pass on your experinces and opinions regarding racing. There may have only been three of us there but what was said will trickle down to others as and when they show an interest.

It was great to meet Graeme and Mart. We are approaching the sport from totally different directions but we do have a common purpose in that we want to raise the profile of the Dolomite to the unconverted and motorsport in general to club members.

As Graham has mentioned, I will be posting details of developments and listing costs so that people can see what sort of budget will be needed to 'get involved'. Graeme, maybe you can do the same for the Sprints and Hill climbing side of things?

If sufficient interest is shown, we could maybe schedule another meeting with Mark and Jo of Jigsaw at one of the pre-season TSSC/TR Register track days. That way, people can get to see the cars going round and have a good look over them as well.
Re: Seminar Day
Andy - I'll put my writing cap on and try and knock out a report over the next day or so.

Scott - Good idea but most of the costs will be testing my memory as the car has taken several years to get to its current unfinished state. I'll add something to my website when its due for an update.
Re: Seminar Day
I'd like to thank Mark & Jo also for the knowledge past on to us (and the tea & biccies). Although I am dead keen to compete in these races (if accepted) I can see now what sort of costs can be involved. So I think I will follow in Graeme's tread marks & do some trackdays and Sprinting next year and have a rethink for the 2005 season. (unless I win the lottery of course).
