If I was ever to buy another pre-63 classic it would be nice to find one local to me (BT, WF, KH, AT) but if a car's re-registered you've no way of knowing, which is a shame.<br>

The computerised system is making it harder as well but I'm sure with alot of these things, where there's a will there's a way.<br>

Slightly off topic but I tend to think private plates are soo cheesy anyway. I can't believe people pay good money for them. Someone I knew paid about £400 to have his new car registered as AY04PMY (It's not really the plate). His initials were first and his wive's the second part so it kinda read that he fancies her (like we used to write in our text-books when we were 8!<br>

Another friend called Micky T bought the plate M17KYT and he had it spaced as M17KY T. He had the 7 bent so it sort of resembled a C. The funny thing was, it looks more like MILKY T and for the last 3 years that is what he gets called everywhere!<br>

Have to agree with you about the private numberplates Scott; bit sad that people are going so far as to modify them too so that they are almost unreadable. What would happen in the event of an accident? "Did you get the registration number of the car that mowed you down Sir?" <br>

Speaking of numberplates, we saw a Landrover (I think) at Shelsley Walsh today with something like E1T0N on it. Do you think the Rocket Man himself was there? Surely someone who is a household name would not be so foolish as to publicly broadcast the fact that he was at a public event? Didn't spend too much time pondering on that as there were so many nice cars to look at. I want a Sprite now! (No, not an elfin type creature but the Austin-Healey type).<br>

Well, off to bed soon. Sebastian's exhaust front pipe has divorced the down pipe and with it sounding like a souped up CHAV Corsa, I have decided to walk to work tomorrow!<br>

the police are cracking down on a lot on modified plates in our area citing the reason of id'ing the car after an incident but the real reason is that the number plate reading cameras and digital speed cameras can't read the plates. but when all is said and done it doesn't matter what reason they use i want to know who runs me over.<br>

For what its worth, I have a personalised plate; my mother bought me it for my 21st birthday, it has gone with each car from cavalier to Pug 205, to Renault and now is on the Golf. I have never felt the need to change the spacing, it is B3 {my initials}, nor the font, even when i lived in Belfast, where the rules on fonts and spacing are different due to DVLNI regulations being different to DVLA.<br>

For some reason the number plate recognition camera in Morrisons petrol sation by me can't read my plate properly.<br>

Usually comes up as FAA 375S (its FAA 376S) but the other day it came up as FA 37.
