costing...

As you know, aviation is my field, so just a few little facts for you all. Aviation is a very expensive business.

Warwickshire and Northants Air Ambulance (I know a few of the guys who work on it) costs £1.6m a year to run. That is not including the initial buy price.

They get very little funding from the NHS and central government, and they almost rely on donations from the public to keep going. It's very sad that it takes such an accident to happen to a well liked public figure, to raise this sort of cash.

I myself took part in a Casualty Evacuation last Tuesday. It would have taken the normal ambulance at least sixty minutes to do what we did in fifteen. That forty-five minutes is a very long time when your internals are popping out. We probably made the difference, the guy was delivered to A&E before the normal ambulance would have even reached him. I am happy to say he will probably make a full recovery, less scarring.

These accidents (although not as dramatic, granted) happen every day, on the roads that I, You, and our families drive down. You don't have to be blatting along in a jet-powered car tying to break any records.

I'm not a big one for telling people which charities they should support, because it winds me up when others tell me to. All I am saying is that your local Air Ambulance could be an option next time you are thinking of running a charity event.

Great news he is making a recovery
