Well, if it ain't made before 1st jan '73 then it isn't a classic (natch!)
maybe your daughter should have a word with my (female) supervisor at work,
"..you'll never pick-up a girl driving that horrible old thing..!)
She might be right Pete, I've had the same Dolly for 16 years (my first car too; who says fidelity is dead!). Women? they just come and go and try their hardest to ignore my fetish, realise they can't, tolerate it for a short while longer and then off they go. Good old Vix even came auto jumbling with me....twice! but alas, not a third time.

Or perhaps I just live too close to Jod.....

What we need is more enthusiastic members who have 23 year old daughters who yearn to drive Dollies and keep Tasusi company!

Classic Cars

My 24 yo lad who sells euroboxes for a living thinks its cool, as do all his mates although they are not too sure about turd brown, but my 20 yo daughter refuses to acknowledge its existence, when ringing up for a lift if I answer the phone she puts it down and rings the wife's mobile.....
Cool or what...

#20 Post by Jon Tilson » Sat Jul 19, 2003 11:16 am

Here's what my lad (19) thinks is cool...our TR7 engined o/d one which does 33 to the gallon, no road tax and as a named diver costs 250 a year to insure...(went down 80 quid when I put his girlfriend on...that he found insulting! he doesn't let her drive it yet but she thinks its cool too and wants her own!)
Money talks...but his friends all thinks its very comfortable and some of his nova and fiesta driving mates are suprised when they cant keep up.
Plenty of 3 series are too when I drive it...never let one passed.
I think wood and vinyl interiors are much cooler than the nasty cheapo plastics you get nowadays...

Blue Dolly in scouse land

#23 Post by Neil Russell » Sat Jul 19, 2003 6:39 pm

Yes it was a rear wheel drive model. guy seemed genuine. Its on the autotrader website at £895, but he is desperate to sell coz he has lost his lock up.

Funny that, one dolly looses a lock up and one finds one.
I hve just cleared my lock up out in Poynton, Double garage, full power and lights, complete with RSJ for engine lifts. and all rent free<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">
Im only 23 and have recently bought my first ever dolly, its a sprint. I think its great. In 8 years Ive had 16 cars from a hillman imp to a golf gti to a 2.5 litre pontiac fiero but the sprint wins hands down. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> Its great fun leaving modern car owners standing in a classic car. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> I am the youngest sprint owner on here?

Andy, did this band sing about "wasteland"...?
Here's one for anyone younger than 25..
Did you know what Superster D-DJ Pete Tong's first car was...?
And don't forget, look on the back of David "I-know-a-lot-about-football, y'know.." Baddiel's first book, and see what car he drives...

Fast? maybe..

Cool? Definitely...!

Insurance

#27 Post by Stagger » Sun Jul 20, 2003 1:44 pm

I paid £420 TPF&T on a Sprint when I was 18 - and that was in 1984, even though this was six weeks pay and the car only cost me £650.
It would cost less than £100 FC now because I'm an old sensible git who thinks the brakes are more important than the engine. I no longer out drag xr3s at traffic lights, need 6000rpm through the gears or hang the tail out on every roundabout. I thought it was worth it to drive the car I desired back then and I'm pleased now that I did it.
It's a bit late in the day to be grumbling about insurance, if you're already looking at these cars. You could always wait until you're 30 and the insurance companies decide that you're a safe bet. That's life.
Quite frankly, at your age I wouldn't have been seen dead driving anything less than a Sprint. 1850 selling prices may be lower, but the time effort and expense now needed to preserve these old cars in tip top reliable condition will be very similar. IMHO.
You could always buy a Mini or a Nova!
Mark.

now that i think about it, i didn't bother getting a quote for a sprint.Didn't seem much point
what do you reckon, Gp12 Sprint V Gp8 1850, much difference ?
I've got no convictions or claims BTW.Just insurance companies prejudices to worry about...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">
The car owes me just shy of £600 including the 6 months tax I put on it last week. I honestly didnt think i'd have a problem getting my money back.

As for insurance, I pay £200 as a 23 yr old male with 5 years no claims (but in use on my main car) on a 3000 mile policy with firebond.

getting one's money back

There was a white, one family owned, 1850 auto on ebay going for starting bids of £500 with no takers finished with no takers as well..........

Remember, I paid £280 for my yellow 1850 auto, cleaned it up and got an insured vallue of £1000, got rear ended by a dozy hairdresser and received £1350.......

Kept the car, repaired it, got it through this year's MOT with next to no work(well, tidied up the rear sills / jacking points) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> and am looking to reinsure with a value of £1200.......<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

But then I am an insurance broker, (and getting mightily p<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> s<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> ed off with the insurers) Just got my renewal quote for £165.11 on a classic policy. Norwich Union via Cherished Car Underwriting Agency.

If you're under 25, try Norwich Union direct but prepare for around 750 - 1000 for a daily driver......<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o">
If you want to try me out, drop me a line
ps I've been a bit quiet recently as life has been a bit busy!! But I'm buying things again on ebay and may be seling some...
