sounds a long way out sure you haven't got the setting on 6 or 8 cyl. Dwell is important as setting the points (essentially more accurate!) but means the coiul has time to charge<br>

Don't you lot laugh - but I thought I'd check out my dwell on my even crappier dwell / RPM meter and found it registered about 20. Now I know that the book says something about 45 - 55 degs but then I realised - hang on!! - with elec ign fitted, surely the dwell is irrelevant! Duh

Mike, it's comforting to know that there are still people around who make the same sort of mistakes I do, but at least were not in the same league as my father in law. He put petrol in a diesel car and filled up the engine with water because the oil filler cap looked like the cap on the rad of a car he owned 25 years ago. And yes it did have "OIL" embossed on it too.
