If you are fully comp make the claim through yours and let them do the chasing. Make sure your company and their company aren't under the same corporate umberolly though else they will try knock for knock

No chance of me ever accepting a knock for knock. It is an open and shut case, I was stationary, he hit me from behind.

So which insurance company should I approach? The hire company that owns the van or the company which the driver works for?
Go with the hire company. They have their own insurance policies on their vans.

would repair this easilly but you would need to source new chrome trim and bumpers. I have spare lights, as does everyone else....

I would get the best offer you can and make sure you retain the car. I haver had friends recentlty who lost their cars to the insurance company without being offered salvage. The Ins co wouldnt pay out until logbook and keys were handed over! Both cars were repairable..a TR6 and a Stag too! So dont let your car out of your sight. I would have thought repair estimates in excess of 800 quid would see it written off.

I had similar although nothing like as bad damage to mt 1850 rear wing and accepted a payout of 550 to repair...
Gary will do a complete repsray for that!
Never hand over the logbook or keys. The car is your property until you have agreed and accepted a full and final offer. They tried this on me with the Jensen, you just need to be robust, persistant and unwavering. I sent them a photocopy as proof it was my car and told them they would get the original once the cheque had been received. It took the second letter and reference to the Insurance Ombudsman to make them realise I knew what it was all about; cheque arrived by return of post.

They will rely on lack of tenacity!

There's lots of good advice on here so I'll just say that GDV should be repaired as soon as possible. To write it off goes against the aims of the Club. I also have a bootlid available if that would help. Keeping the car on the road (despite water getting in your boot) surely should help your cause in getting it repaired.

update!

don't worry David, GDV will be fixed...just a case of when!!

Right, called my insurance company this morning. They have asked how much the car is worth, I said £1200. They have now asked me to get one quote to repair it.

I have got a very good friend who restores Alfas for a living to give me a quote. Thing is, the quote will be expensive as he does a 200% job. I suspect it will be between £800 and £1000, with new panels from Rimmers.

OR shall I just get a cheapy quote??
Get quotes that reflect realistic commercial rates for doing the job, availability of panels etc. The fact you eventually repair it yourself is not something to divulge!

parts

#24 Post by triumphtoledo » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:41 pm

Have e-mailed Rimmers for a quote on the following parts:

REAR CENTRE BUMPER: XKC1680 (my one has a nasty scrape where the transit's tow hitch went into it!) Corners thankfully look OK, although the left hand one and the centre have moved a little

CORNER BUMPER WASHER (x2 needed): 721168 (original ones bound to collapse when take off)

BOOT SEAL 720438 (original perished and wouldn't fit well on new boot)

BADGE FIXER (4 required) GHF1532 (for badges)

REAR OUTER LAMP PANEL: 715704 (outer panel is bent!)

BOOT LID: 912104 (bootlid is bent on one edge)

BOOT LID FINISHER STRIP: 715004 (knackered!)

BOOT LID STRIP & CORNER TRIM CLIPS (10 needed) GHF1154

GASKET – rear lamp to body (x2 required) RTC1713
(original ones are perished and likely to fall apart when taken off!)

REAR TRIM CLIPS: GHF1163 (10 required)

LEFT SIDE REAR LAMP: TKC937 (original reverse lamp is smashed but unit likely to be bent)

NUMBER PLATE GASKET RUBBER (2 REQUIRED) 215823
(went walkies in the impact)

That's it. Wasn't that an exciting read!!
