Re: Dolomite racing
Well we know that at least 8 Dolly owners are seriously interested in taking part in the series. The TDC has a very good relationship with the TR Register and a joint race series will do much to cement that good relationship.
I've invited Mark from Jigsaw to join in these discussions but I suppose like many businessmen,he's not had to time to get involved as yet.
As the TDC's Motorsport Registrar I've tried to encourage the use of Dolomites in motorsport over the last couple of years.Due to other commitments (like being the TDC's General Secretary) and the lack of a race-capable Sprint,I've not been able to give the subject of motorsport the attention it rightly deserves. The club really needs a member to take over as Motorsport Registrar now that things are begining to happen. How about it Scott? Anyone else interested?
Andy,

Thanks for the update. I hope I haven't trodden on your toes with this. I think you are correct with regard to Mark at Jigsaw. He is incredably busy and doesn't get on the net much. Put it this way, my email enquiry to him to see if he was interested in sorting my Dolly went unanswered but when I called it was arranged straight away.

I'm well aware that there are others in the club or on this board who are involved in Motorsport and have greater knowledge and experience on this subject than I do. As I'm seeing Mark regularly and as he is keen to champion our cause, it makes sense for me to bring him together with other people in the club who are interested in the proposition.

I'm fairly new to the board and haven't even got around to joining the Club yet so i don't know if being the Registrar is appropriate. Don't get me wrong, I'd be more than willing to do it but I don't want to tread on anybody's toes. If somebody like Graeme wants to head it up I would be quite happy liasing with him on the subject of getting in a race series. I don't mind either way.

I'll keep everyone posted with any developments as and when they come about, Registrar or not!
Scott
I've been pleading for someone to take over as Motorsport Registrar for the last twelve months! Whoever volunteers to do it certainly won't be treading on my toes, far from it.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
I don't mind who does it as long as the person is a club member (it doesn't matter how long they've been a member) and is enthusiastic.I'm sure that whoever takes on the role will be able to call on the expertise of the membership at large,so lots of in-depth knowledge isn't essential.
Scott - thanks for the nomination! I assume you mean me and not a different Graeme??

I might be up for doing something like that seeing as I can't afford to enter a race series in the forseeable future - I'm sticking to Sprints and Hillclimbs as they only cost £70ish an event.

I assume you are a memebr of TDC so can I suggest, why don't you take the reigns as Registrar as from what I've seen of your postings you certainly aren't lacking in the enthusiasm department! I'm going to be sending my cheque off to Andy and becoming a member v.shortly and will happily assist you wherever I can.

If you agree, it should balance out nicley as you will have the requisite knowledge on hill climbs and sprints and I should be able to keep abreast of race series stuff once that gets moving. That way, if anyone has a question relating to Motorsport, one of us should have the answer. I suppose we might need someone who does a bit of Rallying to cover all angles.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
Getting you guys out there...!
I've just sent a long winded reply to Scott on the possibilities of Dolomite racing with the rest of us Triumphs. As you know I am Sec to the TSSC for racing, but Mike Hughes is the Supremo and its the TR register that arrange all the racing as we don't both need to do it.

There are three stages that basically need addressing to enable the Dolomite (and other Saloons) to join the championship and neither are really a small thing.

1. Mike (Competiton Chairman) has to be agreeable in principal to the idea.

2. The proposistion is put to the exisiting racers - this would be a vote which can be won by simple majority.

3. We'd have to find a place in the class structure to accomodate them.

Although, none of these stages are by any means a small order we are currently averaging grid of approx 22-24 cars, but can allow for and average of 28.

There are already a handful of TR drivers who are in your camp on this one - so please don't lose heart. I haven't much idea on the TSSC side but will be putting the principal to them next month. I'll have to let you know what the outcome is...

I guess we'll have an idea in a couple of months time... as the regs currently stand your cars would be eligible for the invitation class (cars not within regulations) but you are limited to 2 races a year in that and only Mike and myself can send out the invites.

And a word about value for money... SMIFTER is happy to sprint his sprint for £70 an event. As far as I know that gives you two practice runs and two competiton runs. At a venue like Lydden this would add to 8 laps (ish). If we were to attend Lydden (we haven't been there for a while) then I'd expect entry to be £140 (ish) and at current speeds a front runner would get about 34 laps total - (15mins practice and 15min +1 lap race). For comparison Cadwell was £145 for the full circuit and we got 18 laps for that. Yes racing is more expensive - true... but still good value when looking at track time.

That's please digest - I'll get back to you on developments.
Re: Getting you guys out there...!
Your dead right Sprinting and Hillclimbing only gives you 4 laps so in terms of laps per buck its expensive. However its still a cheap means of grass roots motorsport and theres more chance that you and your car will still be in one piece by the end of a season as all you can hit is scenery. I also do it for the social side - you get to meet dozens of interesting cars and people running everthing from mini's to single seaters. I'd also recommended it for any novice racers rather than going straight into 'proper' racing. A day at a racing school is money well spent too.

I'd still rather race, but I know my financial limits. If you can afford it, and the risks that go with it, go race!!! I'd love to see some Dolly's out there in wheel to wheel combat.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

So am I now the official motorsport registrar?? Is there some sort of initiation ceremony involving sacrificing goats?
Hail Ceasar!!
Graeme,

Are you talking about one of those public school style initiations? Suggestions on a postcard people as to what Graeme must do with the goat to become Registrar.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
I don't know how the Politics within the Club works but I hope Andy and anyone else for that matter is agreeable to the appointment. From what I can see, this Forum does lend itself to operating as a forum should, with veryone free to offer advice or post news. Graeme and I and any other interested parties can hopefully attend the meetings which will no doubt be coming up so that we can demonstrate our interest and enthusiasm.

I'm going to bore you all again in a short while with another post once I've had my dinner.

Need to get some names together of those provisionally interested and have details of Racing Seminar (For want of a better word) that Mark from Jigsaw will be offering Free!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">
There are no "politics" in the club,we're just a bunch of enthusiastic,like-minded individuals who are passionate about Dolomites.Since we rescued the club we've done a great deal to encourage other members to come forward and help us.We've had a lot of success,in the last month alone we've recruited four new Area Reps! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> However, we're always on the lookout for more volunteers to help expand the range of services and activities which the club provides for it's members.
I set up our Motorsport Register over two years ago,the dream being that one day we'd be able to stage a proper championship for Dolomites. The Register began as a Yahoo email discussion group, but interest dwindled and I decided to move the group to this forum in an attempt to get some discussion going.I'm extremely glad that I did! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
I'm happy for you to take on the job of Motorsport Registrar, either by yourself or jointly with Scott or A.N.Other.Maybe we could have a natter about it at Cosford on Sunday?
Cheers Andy,
I didn't know if there was a panel or board that 'sits' to decide these type of appointments. I was slightly paranoid that in my haste to get people involved I had totally circumvented any structure that was in place.

If you don't have a rep in the Northants area, I'd be happy to take on this role once I've found my application form which has been filed somewhere under disorganised.
Blimey - the committee doesn't sit and debate whether Person A or Person B should be appointed to a job <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> .Most of the time we're pleading with members to volunteer to take on roles.I'm not sure how other clubs conduct their business, but in the TDC we really want members to take an active interest in the running of the club.We want as many people as possible to take on jobs - many hands make light work and all that.Although we do provide a wide range of services for members already, there is so much more that we could do - if only we had the volunteers...
When I spoke to Mark (Jigsaw) some time ago,he mentioned the idea of holding seminars/workshops/meetings at his premises.Although we do have an Area Rep for Northants, the group doesn't seem all that active (Neil if you're reading this, maybe we could have a chat about this at Cosford?).Another member,Steve Hughes, was going to try and help start up a meeting in Northants but I've not heard any more about it (Steve - maybe you,Neil,Scott and I could have a bit of a chat at Cosford to try and get something worked out?).
