Course I slag off the 1500 ohv when its in a dolly cos there are better alternatives...<br>
In a Spit there arent....and somehow the ohv 4 seems a bit happier without so much bulk to shift...<br>
Now if they had made a slant 4 Spit I expect I would feel the same about it as I do in a dolly...well they nearly did...it was called a Fury...<br>

...the only proper engine for a Spit of course has 12 cylinders and about 27 litres!<br>

Sprit or TR7

I am sorry many of you don't like my choice of car, as I do like yours.<br>
I love the elegant understated styling of the Dolly, & would love to buy a Sprint for my wife, if it were not for Mr Lucas, & the fact I would have to drop a V8 in the 7.<br>
Could not have the little lady with a quicker car, & I could not stand the nagging when the electrics played up.<br>
We don't have a rust problem in my part of Oz, & the only reliability problem I have had with 4 7s in 5 years, was with flooding carbys, in my latest car, & it has Sprint carbys. Ours came with Zeniths, as fitted for the US market. The SUs did not like the high pressure of the locally available fuel pumps. <br>
I think the 7 had bad press, as it was not what the TR boys were used to. It is the best handling, & most comfortable TR, & will run rings around any Spit, although a good GT6 could give it a run for its money. <br>
The TR7 V8 is becoming a "weapon" in bitumen rallies, with the good ones beating many of the good 911 Porsche's in things like the Taga Tasmania, [1000 kilimoters of special stages].<br>
If you have not tried one, with good poly bushes, & good shocks, you might be suprised. This comes from a bloke who raced a Morgan + 4, so I was used to "rigid suspension, flexible chassis" motoring.<br>

Don't take it personally. It's just that we love our cars THAT much!!<br>

A well sorted Spitfire can be alot quicker than a well sorted 7 even with a Sprint engine.<br>

Spit or TR7

I'm not taking it personally, Just a little sad. I can understand that you love your cars so much.<br>
We don't bother much with Sprint engines in our 7s in Oz. To start with, they are a bit thin around here, & the Sprint owners need them much more than us, although there are a few. We drop in the V8, as they are easy to get, & tune. With the gear available locally, you can do a 225 BHP V8 for less than a Sprint, installed, & have a low stress rocket. <br>
In this tune they are almost trouble free.<br>
We have a DHC with 227 BHP at the wheels. At this stage you can have cooling, gearbox, & diff problems, & the body can become a bit like a pretzel, if abused. <br>
One bloke here will supply a 3.9 Rover, twin turbo, with a guaranteed 500 BHP, & its supposed to be a pussy cat in traffic. Don't know how they cool that lot though.<br>
I do plan on a Sprint in the future, but only when I get too old to be able to get into the 7 FHC.<br>
