A late 1500HL auto fits thst bill too perfectly to ignore. Absolutely cracking cars. £500 will buy a minter with MOT, another £500 shoule see it debugged. You're talking city driving, nothing outside of a london taxi cab or suggestion 2 has the turning circle of a Triumph.

If you really don't want a 2nd dolly then a mini. Old autos are rare but unpopular so £1000 should get you a very decent one. Spend the rest on a pair of late doors and debugging. Great fun to drive, specialists are everywhere and parts availability is good.

Both are similarly light to drive, simple to fix, cheap to insure and tax. Parts availability is excellent for both but the web based retailers for mini aren't up to the standard of rimmers or canleys. Parts costs are similar. The dolly wins on simplicity of most jobs and also on simplicity of fixing worst case breakages (engine for £50? no problem). Mini wins on ease of bodywork fixes, every panel is available. Both can have a full service for £45 quid from Halfords.

The support network for minis isn't as good as here and the dolly wins hands down on comfort, space and practicality. The mini is the definitive city car but the dolly comes mighty close and a hell of a lot closer than any other 4 door on the road.

Oh and Mk 1 festers are utter, utter, utter, utter junk.
