First of all, the thanks. Thanks to all who organised it and all who turned up to graft. A special big thanks to Alun for his mercy dash from Cardiff, and Scott for racing round Birmingham to collect the new windscreen.
I honestly thought the day was going to be "one of those". As I was climbing the hill on the M42 before the services, my car developed a bit of a backfire, and a "higher than usual" temperature reading.... . Ok, so I had done a little bit over the speed limit all the way from Ross, but it was early sunday morning, so I thought I would push her a bit. I pulled over, lifted the bonnet, but couldn't see anything wrong. I sat with my head in my hands for a few minutes, trying to decide what to do, then in the end, decided to start her back up, and drive slowly to the services, and have another look. The temperature remained normal, and no backfiring, so I carried on all the way to Stoneleigh, with a considerably lighter right foot, and one eye on the temp gauge. When we got there, Phil, Malc and Scott all crowded round, not lost water (apart from a small leak from the thermostat gasket which has been there a while admittedly), and the oil looked fine. Bizarre. Malc nipped up the inlet fannymould, a couple of bolts were needing it, me and Phil whipped out the plugs, #1 and #2 looked a little dirty, but nothing extreme, so we swapped them for #3 and #4, and decided to leave it for the day.
Malc and Phil get busy with the roof prep. I don't know how he did it, but Malc managed to get his best sunday T-Shirt covered in Carmine rubbings, and made a good impression of an axe murderer...
The finished roof (the white mark is just dust)...for a bunch of guys who have never done this before, the finish was very professional, which I am sure went some way towards us getting this:

As has been mentioned, having a little look round the show whilst the paint was drying, a lot of other clubs seem to bring amazingly restored classics to the show, park them up, then sit round drinking tea and discussing jolly japes. Fair enough, if thats what they want to do, crack on. I fully beleive the reason why we won second last year, and first this year, is because we turn up with cars the need restoring, and do something that will amuse the public. You wouldn't beleive how many people were standing around waiting for us to screw the roof up, almost as many who watched Al Williams take a Senger Saw to his 1500's roof last year. Far more interesting than just looking at a well restored car.

Long may this tradition continue! As has already been mentioned, luckily we have plenty of cars that need restoring....<img src=

Quote of the day goes to Malc though, with reference to the comment I made about it looking like an elephants genitals:
Once again, a great day, great people, and makes me proud to be a member of a great club. Thanks !!
