Lewis - I'm planning to use bike throttle bodies rather than carbs as I want to go down the EFI megasquirt route so I can tune it myself. The Dellortos are my cowards way out. I have a plan with the manifold that should give me the choice of either.<br>

This prop bloke - I assume you do mean feeder road bristol. I'd be interested but its going to be a few weeks before i can consider it (£££££ = -ve !!!!!).<br>

As for sumps I think either gasket is OK. I've got the standard XE double gasket with the stupid metal spacer things. I might swap it to a 1.8 manta single piece item if it doesnt seal.<br>

And feel free to jump on the forum - we wouldnt kick anyone off (unless they are burberry clad of course).<br>

smifter, you may know the answer to this as i don't. i spent the day on the car, there is too much wiring and the inlet manifold is massive. looking at throttle bodies, which take up less room and require almost no loom splicing as they seem to be self contained, i have found a set near me . they are jenvey 40mm with all the engine management and loom etc,at the moment they are on a citreon saxo. is it just a case of fitting them onto the correct manifold then having the management system reprogrammed for my engine? thanks

yeah the standard injection manifold is a pig and really restrictive anyway.<br>

i think your spot on with what you need for the jenveys except you need to know what engine management system it is.<br>

I was planning on doing some work on the car today, but its too chuffing cold. Its March and barely above freezing ffs. I was hoping global warming would make life easier!<br>

Anyway one of the problems I had to overcome is how to control the brakes as I no longer have space for the sprint servo and master cylinder - a wilwood bias box was on my shopping list but at £200 it was an expensive item which If possible I would try and get over.<br>

I have acquired a brake pedal box and master cylinder from a Midget for the grand total of £14 including postage! Like the Willwood item its reverse action (i.e. the cylinder is in the car rather than on the bulkhead) so the plan is to remove the clutch pedal from it and fabricate some brackets to bolt it onto the inner bulkhead. I've held it in place and it very compact and fits beneath the dash nicely (no shelf is fitted in my car) so should work a treat. I wont have a servo which will take some getting used to and give my right leg a good workout but I was prepared for that anyway. With some mods it should be possible to convert it to a dual cylinder set up with adjustable bias for a fraction of the cost of the wilwood box, and a remote reservoir would make life easier too.<br>

I also bought a new XE cambelt for £6.50! There are still bargains out there if you search hard enough.<br>

Well a little but of progress anyway, prepped the rear axle ready to weld on the upper tie brackets and panhard rod bracket and trimmed the escort panhard rod tower to fit the dolly and it held in place with self tappers ready for welding.<br>

Got everything ready for tack welding prior to the final weld (for which the axle will be dismantled) and the friggin wire feed that I've been struggling with breaks complete- the pivot for the tensioner wheel has sheared off. Bloody SIP pile of shite. I can probably repair it (and do a better job of fixing the tensioner wheel!)<br>

I've decided to concentrate on jobs that have to be done before I spend any more money on parts such as the propshaft and electrics as I'm in danger of never getting anything ticked off my list! And with only half a day a week if I'm lucky to work on it progress is just too slow. I might have to adjust my original deadline of running by May at this rate!<br>
