Sounds good any idea of the cost ?
What kind of racing ? would it be hillclimbs, sprinting or on the track
Against each other or the clock and will the dollys all have to be road legal or will track cars be allowed as i don't think many people would want to race against proper track cars as they don't really care about swopping paint.
We're talking about a proper race series for Dolomites at a number of circuits around the country. We need people who are seriously interested to get in touch asap so we can determine whether or not this is a viable proposition.
IIRc talking to people who were doing the post historics the cost can be as much as you make it with engines costing up to 4,000 quid (professional build of course) Depends if you want to win<img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> There is always going to people who will spend more than you! Going the other way assuming you have a car and do the work yourself and don't expect to run at the front......
Entry to the race approx 130, travel to and from circuit knockhill anyone 150 consumables tyres oil etc. it soon mounts up. The average sort of weekend without any proublems is probably going to cost a team in the region 350 400 quid.
Karting gives the racing thrills at much lower cost tried a 250 international ( not mine <img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> )a while ago old but still most alarming a yamaha tz250 geared for approx 130 0-60 in around 3.5 secs and your arse rubbing along the ground, cornering can cause muscle strain.<img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> . The cart was sold a few months later for 250 quid! Its not a sprint though no radio.

You could make it a more affordable race series if the technical restrictions are tight enough e.g. standard production transmissions, rev limiters, standard specification materials, no fuel injection, limited carb sizes, road legal tyres, standard suspension and engine mounting positions etc etc.

However, excluding Saturday night on Weston Super Mare seafront, there is no such thing as a cheap form of motorsport at any level let alone circuit racing.

I don't wish to put a damper on the idea but for a one make circuit race series of rare (ish) 30 year old cars to be successful for more than a season sponsorship and advertising would be the key. I'm not sure how attractive a Dolomite series would be be to sponsors.

There is no such thing as cheap motorsport, unless you are very very lucky.
Well we know that several people already race Dolomites in various series. What we're trying to do is bring them all together in a one-Marque series, hopefully encouraging more people to have a go too.Sponsorship etc has already been taken care of.What we need now is for people to register their interest in taking part.
I'm seriously considering it too. I have loads of bits to make a quick car now. Don't suppose there would be a class for non-Sprints? <img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Do we have an idea of the regulations and permissible modifications in each class?
Hopefully some of the people off the Yahoo Groups list will turn up here soon and with luck this forum will attract a fair bit of interest.Once the ball starts rolling we should be able to get quite an exchange of info on here.
Hey guys,

I was wondering if you were all thinking of a race series, why not think of doing what the TR register does with their Hillclimb & Sprinting series ??

That's not a bad idea as an alternative. Personally I would relish the chance to race side by side with other Dolomites. But, as you can see, we have about half a dozen takers which is a start but it don't make a series. <img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Surely there must be more owners out there who'd like to have a go. Just get a Dolly, stick on a loud exhaust and a K&N and off you go. <img src=

That's a good point, I assume it would be an MSA national - B license. Not sure how much.

Surely the most important step is to get all the Dolomites who are interested in racing together and on the track, regardless of differences in specifications?

I'm in NZ so can't be part of it unfortunately - but have you thought of evening out the differences in performance by handicapping the cars of the start line. The most successful classic race series in NZ, the one I run in, operates in exactly this way. We have cars running together with lap times varying from 1:12 to 1:30, racing over 6 laps. Times for handicapping are based on practice and best previous times (and can change at each meeting). Faster cars are held back so that theoretically all cars should get to the finish line together. Makes for really exiting racing as you are always either overtaking or being overtaken. In that way I get to race with Jag XJ6, Rover V8, Capri, Escort, Anglia, Golf, Fiat 131, Toledo, BMW2002, Merc, Viva etc.

For some photos of recent events look at
and follow the menu through TACCOC Autumn classic (may 03) to View CD on line - my car is No 20

Your right! that's exactly the type of racing we need IMO. Then we can have 1300's along side 2000's or 3000's (ALG1K, you'll have to start 3 laps behind everyone).

Andy - How many cars do we need to get this off the ground.

Ok,I think I'd better put a bit more meat on the bones,so to speak...
There is a possibility of Dolomites taking part in an existing Triumph-only race series.I'd guess that we would need around half a dozen cars initially. This will be a relatively easy way to start up a championship for our cars.If we can get enough cars together to make this a goer, then we can sort out the technicalities and other details later.
Thinking (dreaming? <img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> ) ahead,if there is sufficient interest,we may even be able to have an exclusive race for Dolomites eventually. What is needed right now is for people with a serious interest in taking part to make themselves known to the club, either via this forum or by ringing/emailing/writing to us.Once we know how many people are definitely interested,we can sit down and work out the fine details.
