Herts Insurance Consultants Ltd (HIC), which specialises in insurance for the
motoring enthusiast, now offers track day cover. And it's giving it away for
free, as a bonus option with its standard motoring policies.

Track Days are a paradox. You go there because you are a motoring enthusiast.
Everyone else there is a motoring enthusiast. It's a community thing. It's
all about looking at and looking out for cars, being looked at (lets be honest)
and meeting old (and new) friends. You'd think a Track Day was just about the
safest place your car could be, short of being locked up in a garage.

Yet insurance companies hate them. Except for one.

"HIC is run by motor enthusiasts and we go to Track Days as punters," says
Divisional Director Brian Rowell. "So it was definitely in our interests to sort
out insurance for them!"

Why do insurers hate Track Days? "Probably it's a hangover from the old days,
when a Track Day tended to be macho and amateurish, with plenty of opportunity
for multi-car-carnage," Brian admits. "But times have changed. These days a
Track Day is likely to be professionally organised, safe and a great day out.

"We've based our cover on our own experience of going to track days as
enthusiasts. As long as the event's properly organised, we'll cover your car's trip to
a track day for free."

To arrange your Track Day cover, you simply take it out when you organise your
car's policy with HIC. It covers your car at events run by recognised
organisers. If you're not sure if a particular event fits the criteria, just ring HIC
to check.

HIC is the enthusiast's car insurer. From minis to modifieds, campers to
classics, HIC has a passion for motoring that translates into great deals on car
insurance. For more information call 08451 290290.
Notes for club magazine editors: HIC's Track Day covers the policyholder for
accidental damage to the vehicle, subject to a minimum policy excess of £500.
The vehicle is NOT covered for racing or time events.

Conditions apply to the Track Day cover. For example, HIC will not cover any
damage resulting from negligence or if the driver is under the influence of
intoxicating drugs or alcohol. In the event of a total loss, should the
policyholder wish to retain salvage, the Underwriters will try to comply, subject to
relevant legislation and an agreed settlement.

HIC recommend the following pre-event vehicle checks:
* Brakes
* Steering
* Tyres
* Shocks & Suspension
* Fluid levels

A full list of conditions is available on request.
