My local tesco is charging 94p a litre
Local texaco charge 94.9p a litre (unleaded)
but shell is the worst, 95.9p, and optimax is.....101.9p a litre
At this rate, normal unleaded is gonna be over the quid a litre mark........ dread to think how much Good old real 4 star must be now.. ( if you can find it )
Economy

I'm trying not to think about it!

I've recently gone from a 1500 auto to a tank of a 2000. And just as I do that, petrol rockets up 5p in a week locally <img src=
http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

It's just stupidly expensive now, whatever the case of the real price compared to x years ago the sudden hikes make a hell of a difference to real life spending. And as such, if the government don't get a grip and do something (like cut the percentage tax at the very least) the economy is going to be in very poor shape.

Good to see that little (and highly illegal, IMO) war with an oil rich nation has helped ensure a plentiful supply of cheap fuel... <img src=

I heard of a guy when I was working in America. He had a Chevrolet Chevelle with a 454 cubic inch engine, or about 8 litres capacity.
my brother in law just bought himself a 50cc funky scooter to travel 5-6 miles each way to work every day instead of his toymota corolla T3. I dont blame him.

A few mths ago it was costing me about £43 - 44 to fill my focus, now just over £50. Outrageous really, especially when you think that if you take all the tax and 'B-S' government contributions out, itd probably cost about £18 to fill it.

Do we not pay enough road tax? Where does all this money go? What do we actually see for it?

All crap IMO.
You can understand why so many people nearing retirement are opting to jack this country in and move abroad.
Well, there was an article on BBC news about the price already going over £1 a litre. I stopped to fill my car up at a nice garage in Hereford (95.9p/l for premium UL), the one on the Brecon Road near the garden centre if anyone is interested/cares....and there were two guys filling containers.

I understand the principles of supply and demand perfectly well, and tax reasons left alone for now, but i always get the feeling that the oil companies are very swift to hike the price, but very slow to lower it again....and never to the lower original value....I know about OPEC, but i sometimes feel the suppliers in the UK use these things (like the hurricane) to slap some extra cash in their pockets.

What am i talking about....of course they use it as an excuse. Profiteering bar-stewards....

The sickening thing is that it's not the petrol companies, or even the government, but speculators. There is a futures market in oil like there is in most other commodities, the price we hear on the news is for oil that hasn't come out of the ground yet. Futures traders have been talking up the market, and the price is unstable. Of course OPEC would cut supply right back if the price ever crashed...

the 70's, I just bought my first vehicle (moped) and petrol was around 35p...per gallon. Within a few months it doubled in price. Was I p***ed or should I say annoyed. Funny my measly £16.50 a week wages didn't increase.

Those were the days. Sorry to digress.

In 2003 the Belgian governement decided hat, when the oil price went up, they would pass on 100% of the price hike. However, when the price went down, they would only pass on 50% of the decrease and the other 50% would become new taxes. So they always win !

And as for road tax, it's between 100 and 2400 pounds a year.
