hi,
I know this might be a bit cheeky to use this site to ask this but :
I'm after buying a spitfire.does anyone have one to sell or know anyone who is selling one in the north please. I need a reasonable one that will not drop to pieces in the winter as it will be used. i would prefer if it had a hard top and was in good nick.
Should be ready early october. Just had a full respray in carmine red and bottom end engine rebuild. I need to finsih the interior (black vinyl) and will have a full Mot. Iffy but useable hard top, nice hood, no o'd but stainless 4-2-1 manifold.
Its in Somerset so a trip down the M5 would be worth it.
Can send you some pics if you email me jpt @
blueyonder dot co dot uk. Will take a dolly in part ex.

Also have 2 nice BGT's that are better winter cars.
I've got a friend enquiring about getting a Spitty. What sort of money should he be paying for a mint car?
Spits suffer from a greater variation in price v quality than any other car I look at. Some people ask serious dosh for tat and others let really nice ones go for a song.
You just have to look at lots....

I wouldnt pay more than 2.5k for a really good one. Thats about what I'd ask for a condition 1 car at this time of year...nice paint, good bonnet fit (crucial) full ticket, no end float on crank, lively, good starter, even idle, nice clean inside, no overheating and decent tyres.
No diff whines and no rear end clonking.
Overdrive is a plus as is a good hood. The frame mustn't be bent but the cover isnt so crucial....about a ton to renew.
The dearest bits are seats and bonnet. Good s/h trim is rare and aftermarket stuff is variable quality to say the least.
I'd go for 3k APril to July.
