That one is on the same list as welding two 1850 engines together to make a Stag engine!
It would appear so. Not enjoying it so much though as my job now entails more work on computers than getting my hands dirty!
Still the bonus is I feel more inclined to work on my projects now. Got around to fitting Recaro interior to the Ascona and rounding up the bits for the five speed conversion. (read, got around to tidying the garage!)
Which in turn led to the re-discovery of the SAAB engine.....!

Only joking!

The last time it was asked, it was something along the lines of complications with FWD and transverse. If it was orientated the way we need it then it will fould in certain areas. Something like that!
EXhausted

I had a pretty good look on the internet, but I've never verified it by looking at actual engines.

Only the very early engines are identical to the 1850. By the time the engine picked up the 16v head, they had moved to a "B" version of the engine.

The bearings on that are about twice the size of the 1850/sprint ones, which I think increased the length of the block and also the cylinder spacings.

The biggest problem is that the engine is mounted backwards in the pre GM Saab 900 (Clutch at the front) which means that you'd need a custom turbo exhaust manifold made to get it installed.
