Nokia 3310

Anyone got an old one wot is serviceable. don't need SIM card and all that guff. TDC club mobile on its last legs and TDC spares man find himself 'in the car' most evenings. i'm not into these fancy phones, so my car kit is Nokia 3310 compatible and that is what I use for business (Call me old fashioned but to me a phone is for phone calls, cameras take pictures and use a PC to e-mail and surf the web).

Thinking is, SIM card from Club phone into a useable 3310 chassis, into car kit, take club calls hands free on way home from business

I'd get one of the bay but dunno what all this 'unlocked guff is', thought you shoved a sim in a chassis, put some credit on it and away you went ????
I think I have one.

What network is the current one on? Only reason I ask is I have a brand new O2 genie SIM - 300 free texts per month if you top up with £10 plus 10% back each quarter on whatever you top up with. If you top up with £15 per month, you also get 150 free off peak minutes per month to landlines/mobiles. It also means you'd get £4.50 back per quarter. I always end up with bags of credit on my phone.

If you PM me with the address you want it sending to, I'll get it posted out.
Unlocked just means you can use it with any network sim inserted. Costs a tenner to unlock most phones.
Also, they only need to be unlocked if they were locked in the first place (and also, only if you want to use it on a different Network to the one that it's locked to). It's just a way of encouraging us to use the Network that subsidised the phone at point of sale. (You'll notice that "off-line" phones are nearly always a higher price than when you buy them connected to a supplier). Not all the Networks bother. As a general rule:

Orange and T-Mobile lock theirs whereas O2 and Voda supplied ones will only be locked if their logo is visible on the handset.

If previous offers fall through for whatever reason, let me know and I should be able to help - it's the day job.
Ian, just out of interest. Is it poss to unlock a 6630 currently on Vodaphone? Just that the rest of the clan are on Tesco apart from me
Hi Ken,
Essentially any phone can be unlocked. Your 6630 has the capacity to work on Tesco - they're a virtual network piggybacking the T-Mobile system which operates at 1800MHz. Your handset can operate on 900MHz (O2 and Voda), 1800MHz (T-Mobile and Orange) and also 1900MHz (mainly the U.S.). The only thing that will currently prevent it's use on Tesco is if it's been locked to Vodafone through it's software. If there are Vodafone logos on the actual handset (not the screen) then it's most likely been locked (£10 to unlock from countless places, but beware that Nokia will then tell you that you've invalidated the warranty). If there are no printed logos on the phone, it's probably not locked - if you haven't already, try swapping the sims over with one of the family.
Hi Ian,

It's locked to Vodaphone (logo on the phone). One bloke wanted £40 to unlock it, but can't find anyone else who can do it at the moment. Just wondered if he was messing me around and asking a stupid price in the hope that I wouldn't bother.
I'm sure you'll find somewhere than can do it for a lot less than £40. Around £10 is the norm. It's only a software upgrade. Most of the brand name high-street stores won't be able to do it, but I reckon nearly all of them will know the local independents that can/will. Look out for those places that are covered in lairy fascias - they're usually one in the same.
I dug the phone out from the deepest darkest recess in the spare room (which is like an assault course from the Krypton Factor) and it is in fact a Nokia 3410 and not a 3310.

Some of the hands free kits are suitable for more than one model; if you let me know which kit you have I can check if it is also compatible with the 3410. Not much difference in them so it should be okay.

As for unlocking, I can usually get the codes off the web forums so hopefully no need to pay £10 to have it unlocked.

This one has a very attractive red shiny cover - or you can have a silver one with Tweety Pie if you prefer!
3410 vs 3310

I'm working from memory so could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain they have different connectors and therefore different car-kits.

I'll definitely be able to dig out an outer casing, so if George supplies the handset and Susie gets the unlocking code you'll be able to say "I love it when a plan comes together" while someone else hums the theme to the A-Team.
My car kit is a 'Bery' with the changeable cradle if that helps. It is a pukka installed job all wired in, not one of the 'stick on dash plug into ciggy lighter' efforts.

If that helps. 3310 v 3410, I haven't got a clue, I just put the petrol in and drive (press buttons and talk)
