Spike Milligan, not a comedian as such but one of the funniest people in the world ever.

In an interview in 1998 he was asked "how long will you continue to write?" His answer; "I'll keep writing until I die, and after that I'll stop"

What a genius.
Ronnie Barker, Spike Milligan and Roy Chubby Brown, yes, he's as blue as a very blue thing thats blue, but he is funny.

Sir Norman Wisdom

I love comedy!

Agree with Adam re Peter Kay - his account of 'emergency' chairs at Christmas cracks me up!

Robin Williams (better known for his role as Mork on TV or for his film roles) is a fantastic stand-up comedian. If you've not seen it - get 'Live at the New York Met' out on dvd.

Most things written by Ben Elton and Richard Curtis - Blackadder etc. Edmund Blackadder's character really appeals to my dry sense of humour (I have the book of the scripts at home).

Oh; and Dave Allen R.I.P.

I would say Mohammed if it weren't so tragic...

as its is I'd go for John Clesse and Eric Idle. The dead parrot sketch, starving architects and this ones an eater are all time classics. Rutland weekend television was a masterpiece and so was that film where he's the adopted son of an asian shopkeeper.

I really like Sanjeev and the Kumars and smack the pony as well.
Smack the Pony is very good, I would agree. Plus I really fancy one of them which is a bonus. Very much in the same vein as 'Big Train' which was on 5 or so years ago. I don't think it had a wide audience.

Billy Connolly - although some new material would't go amiss.
Peter Kay - good stand-up family entertainment and really good TV shows - Max and Paddy, Pheonix nights - classics of our times - almost up there with Fawlty Towers - Dad's Army!
