Slick 50 - but the gearbox treatment.......

Just been handed a bottle of Slick 50 - Manual box treatment.

Now, I'm not a fan of snake oils but I was very impressed with a noisy Golf that we had in the workshop that we treated with it as a last-ditch attempted, quietened it right up.

I was wondering if this would be of any benifit to my box, as it is quite old and tired....It's only 80ml so a small treatment, although I noticed in my workshop manual it specifically says "avoid any anti-friction treatments". This down to the overdrive?

Just thought I'd bosh it up here and see <img src=

eer! yes, if you put that in an o/d gearbox, say goodbye to o/d. The o/d has a clutch type friction type thingy in it. Friction being the operatative word.

Yes, it's down to the overdrive. The plates need friction in order to function properly, otherwise they'll slip and you'll end up going nowhere <img src=

I thought as much I wasn't sure if the lubricant came into contact with the plates or not, hence asking <img src=
I'll keep it for my Non-OD box then <img src=

I wouldn't classify 'Slick 50' as a snake oil, but definitely not for use with overdrive 'boxes
