Car abuse.

Isn't it funny the way some cars last years without any maintenance and others let go even with by the book servicing.

My dads 94, 2 ltr Toyota Carina E has a hard life. Got it after about 70 thousand miles and since then the service history goes like this,

Top fluids up
one oil change
brake pads

and it's done 165,000 miles now! It's bloody fine too! How annoying is that! It's supposed to have the timing belt down every 60,000 miles, it had it done by the previous owner at 65,000 mls, but not been touched since!

Fair enough it doesn't really get abused, hasn't been faster than 90 odd and the engine doesn't rev up past 3000 rpm unless doing motorway work, where it will do 85 for an hour or so without fault.

It's MOT test is on Monday and no doubt it will show up most of your moderns!

Maybe it isn't the most attractive car but it's bloody well engineered. Toyota, I salute you

I would advise getting the cambelt done. I had a belt fail in my Honda on the M1 a couple of years ago, 15,000 miles before replacement was due. How annoying that I had the replacement belt at home, waiting for me to find an hour to fit it. The belt was about 20 quid. New valves, head skim and sundry parts was more like ten times that, so I tried to get away with not having the head re-faced and this led to the demise of the motor.

Bloody rubber bands.
He had a quote of about £160 to get it done. He's just going to run it in to the ground

We bought a 1992 Subaru Legacy to do the staples to naples rally, it cost us £100, although the body is tatty, it has absolutley no rust and the engine at 130k, has not a single sign of a leak, like your dads Adam it passed it`s MOT first time with not a single advisory point. Every single piece of electrical equipment works and the engine and gearbox are absolutley seemless. Why couldn`t we as a country of motoring pioneers put a car together like this. I have to admit I also went for a jap car as my daily driver this time, it`s a 1997 Honda Prelude, it`s a fabulous car, quick, comfy, superb handling and it looks pretty good, oh and the noise it makes when you`re gunning it is pretty adictive too.
