New PC installation type question
Posted: Sun Oct 01, 2006 3:15 pm
Me and Sue have decided to get our Christmas present early and are taking delivery of a new home PC early next week (getting fed up of stoking the boiler with coal on this one!)

When I get it it will have Windows XP installed, I have my own copy of Office so that's no problem.

My problem (though I hope it isn't) is the Broadband connection.

I'm with Orange, that was Wannadoo that was Freeserve. The only installation disk for Orange Broadband I have is for the original Freeserve Dial up disk (it has been updated time and time again to become Orange Broadband.)

Now, asking the people in the computer shop where we are purchasing the new one from, they said just put the Freeserve (dial up disk) in and it will retrieve my account. I cannot see this as surely I need to install the Wanadoo Broadband Modem first ????

Now, my question is: If I put the Wanadoo Modem into the back of the new PC will that alone be able to find my account (I have a copy of the Account username and password), for if I put the old freeserve disk in first it will surely try to connect me to a dial up account on a dial up modem (which of course I no longer have either ).

Do not want to telephone the Orange helpline as I find the accents of the indian helpdesk opratives too thick to understand, I have tried their online helpline but just get an automated response about uninstalling the modem - even they admit by given the answer 3 stars out of 5 to it's actual relevance is poor !

So I asking, when I install the Broadband Modem on my new PC will it have a bit where it will ask for an existing account to be reactivated?

Anyone help who is a Wanadoo/Orange user who has had to do a retrieval of their account on a new computer help me please?
