I would like to take a member along with me to collect it from Nottingham...just in case I've bought a dog! I've had a kind offer from Lisa and Chris Bradley.

I have posted the pics and text of the Dolly on http://www.chesney.org - then go to the button for Dog1 (near picture of spider).

ANY thoughts would be VERY MUCH appreciated BEFORE I collect my Dolly.

Kindest regards

ANDREW
Apparently the Sprint has "Triumph Sport suspension (an option fitted when new)" has anyone heard of this before?

I know it has the LSD but "Sport Suspension"?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> ?

Also, Malc, made reference to the Tandem Brake Cyl 7n - is this good/bad?

Finally, if you had a spare £300 and you were in my position, viz new Sprint, what would you spend it on (electric fan, oil cooler, electric ignition....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"> )?

Regards

ANDREW
P.S. I am picking it up tomorrow!!!!!
That will probably open a can of worms Andrew.

I would definately go for electronic ignition (£60-80 ish). After that, it depends what you're going to use it for & how. Are you going to take it on the track or is it definately just a road going car ? Are you going to USE it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> or potter around in it ?

Don't rush to spend on it; Dollies with new owners seem to have a tendancy to cost a bit in the early days anyway!, I'd keep it as a slush fund until you get familiar with her. Electronic ignition is a good one though, it will save much fettling later once its set up.

I agree with Alun...

and wouldnt even bother with leccy ignition. Unless its one that keeps the points and lowers the current to just a switching milliamp or so. Sprint points are easy to change compared with an 1850....
Keep an eye on water levels and temperature gauge...Any problems here could soon eat your 300 quid...
Dear Chaps

I got my Dolly!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Knocked £200 off as the it did not have the LSD (sorry Smifter!) – final purchase price £900. As I could not drive two cars, a friend of mine will be delivering the car to me tomorrow. I had a test drive and with four hefty blokes in the car and it still performed well!!

Chris, gave the car a very thorough “once-over” (what a great bloke) the car has very sound chassis and bodywork, albeit a few minor surface rust points (rear OS wheel arch, front valence, bottom of two doors).

Is there an “idiot’s guide” or a “FAQ” for the first things to do when purchasing a Dolly. For example should I do an oil change, flush the cooling system, change the gearbox oil, change the hydraulic fluids, Etc. (if not could I have your ideas and I will write one to help future “newbies”).

Finally, I should like to thank ALL the members that have helped, guided and supported me in the purchase of my Sprint. I’ll keep you posted when I actually get the car!!!
Oh dear, I was hoping you weren't going to say that. I'm going to be even more sceptical next time. Couldn't you have said it did just to prove me wrong<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> oh well, a good result though. Now you have £500 in the slush fund to spend on it.......or did you tell the wife?

The best tool to take with you when buying a car? Four hefty blokes of course!

I would give the car a complete service as you describe, irrespective of what the seller tells you 'has been done recently' oh, there I go again!!

The Basics

Agree with the chaps, just do the basics to start. Oil & Filter with a good quality 20W50. Set Plugs & Points, Air Filter & Poss a Fanbelt. Drain the cooling system, flush through with a hose & refill with just water initially (remember to have heater on hot setting). You may have to do this a couple of times to get the silt & muck out. Check & Top up the gearbox & Axle oils as necc. Run it for a while, enjoy and get to know the car. Keep an eye on the coolant level and squeeze the top hose regularly to keep the system free from air. Keep left eye on temp guage and use heater to pull the temp down if it starts heading towards 3/4 on the guage, open the windows and tell the passengers to stop moaning <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> . When the coolant remains clean, drain and refil with the correct A'freeze mix.

No LSD
Though i was going to strike a deal for the holy grail of LSD there!

Have fun in your Sprint Andrew - yes give it a service and watch that temp gauge! But i guess you know that having owned one before.

One small but significant point - when changing the oil filter never use the paper ended ones as the ends fall off and block the oilways - most of us should know that but if you've been away from Sprints for 20 years its worth a mention!
