Possible new owner

Dear All,

I am in the process of looking at a 1977 1850 HL. To my untrained eye it looks in a decent state. However, my trained eye is not that trained. I know that the car has been owned by only two people both of which have cared for the car over the years. It has been serviced at the same garage all of its life and early on it had some treatment to prevent rust. I think drilling holes was involved. Basically I am just wondering what I should look out for. I know who I am buying off and as such I have confidence in what they have told me. However, I would like to get a quick grounding in what would be seen as the major bugbears with the Dolomite. I appreciate that you must face this question on a regular basis so I guess there will the answers in previous posts. If you can point me in there direction I would be very grateful.

Also, I thought that a car built in 1977 would be a classic and as such not liable to road tax. I thought it was cars over 25 years of age that were considered classics. Is this the case? One final question, if I buy the car I would pay the fee to join the club. Does this also help in reducing the insurance premiums?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Simon.
