Dolomite as a first car?

Hi, im turning 17 in march and im in love with sprints. i know id never be able to afford or insure one of them. what bout a 1300 or 1500? would the insurance be as cheap as say a fiesta/metro/nova (thats the other cars id probably end up with). Id be using it daily, back and fore to college, 4 miles (ish) both ways so i guess that and my age wouldnt qualify me for classic insurance? Also, im a real car buff, I dont like boasting but i dont know any body that knows more abotu cars how they work what does whot and why that kind of stuff, but.... i have no practical expiernce due to havin a dad with a toyota that will run forever!!! do you think i should get one?<br>
